Wild geranium, Geranium maculatum. Lots of them blooming right now! This one was at the lake.
This is native to my area and it’s on my list of plants I want to get established in the degraded wild area near where I live. I have managed to get another native geranium, Geranium carolinianum, established already.
The one above likes more shade and richer soil, whereas G. carolinianum likes more sun and poor soil.

I’m actually completely ignorant about what cuckoos sound like. I’m really pathetic in terms of not knowing what birds beyond my very small circle are saying. I’d love to have a chance to learn more-exotic bird talk, but so far I’ve never done it.

my birdsong knowledge is hyperlocal. I’m not sure where we are in this video, but I’m p. sure it’s not where I live. so unfortunately I’d be on very shaky ground trying to opine.
here’s ur reminder that axolotl is NOT pronounced like “ak-suh-laa-tl” (or lot-ul), it is in fact a nahuatl word (that most commonly translates to “water dog” actually, very cute!) and is pronounced “ah-SHOW-lowtch” !!!!

big believer in spinning yarns. i think it’s good and correct to tell a tall tale at a campfire. to get creative with your nonfiction at a party. to reel in that big fish with your friend late at night in the kitchen. our self-mythologies can be as real as we want them to be and i don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing.
