It’s hard to believe that 2015 is ending in just a few short hours, and it’s now time to reflect on my (still very Little) Big Year. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this Year, whether you went out with me on a twitch or enjoyed the birds through my photos. It’s been an incredible experience!
Here are a few of the bare-bones stats, with more thoughts and details under the cut. Above are a few of the places I visited this year looking for birds, along with a snap of me at Petit Manan Island, where I’d just picked up my 200th bird, the Atlantic Puffin.
Total Number of Species: 276 Total Number of eBird Checklists: 182 Total Number of States Visited: 5 (New York, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, and Colorado) Number of Life List Species Added: 35
White Tailed Kite decided to join us for happy hour yesterday! My neighbors at my apartment are awesome and a few times a week we have a happy hour next to the “bird tree” so we can drink and bird watch at the same time! #Birding with booze, #Canon and #Tamron
Yesterday, I was part of a group with the Mojave Desert Land Trust that enjoyed a day of rough, 4WD vehicle-only back road adventures into the desert wilderness. The destinations were in the space between Joshua Tree National Park on the south and the Mojave National Preserve on the north. These areas are included in the proposed Mojave Trails National Monument.
These photos were taken at the Cadiz Dunes in the Cadiz Dunes Wilderness. The dunes are loaded with wildlife prints. The paw prints in the second photo belong, I think, to a coyote. The prints in the last photo were left by a roadrunner.
I was so excited to do a movie in the wild. To do a movie in the outdoors. It’s like an adventure movie, which is something I’ve never done before, and I always loved the idea of doing it.
There’s this journey that the character is taking that is very much related to the environment, to nature. We are always trying to create atmospheres, moods, that express the inner life of this character.
Two-time Oscar winning cinematographer Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki chats with Gold Derby editor Zach Laws about his work on Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s new film, “The Revenant.”
Ok is anyone else having a problem where they reblog with long, detailed replies and the post doesn’t reblog at all??? It’s happened at least three times now (twice on a side blog and once here today) and it’s really bothersome. @staff help??
I’ve had that problem for years when using the tumblr mobile app on my iPad. It’s bad enough that when reblogging something with a lot of commentary I usually remember to copy and paste my entire response into the notepad app before posting so I have a backup.
Reblogging to update with the latest result of my obsessive interest:
1) I’m still pretty sure that’s @theashleyclements sitting next to Joey Richter (opposite @marykatewiles), but I don’t have confirmation and don’t know who she might be playing.
2) I believe that’s @hartandgrace on the sofa, which suggests Emily Dickinson will be at the party. Yay!
