Please tell me someone else had the fortunate chance to read Frog and Toad when they were younger.
I read didn’t know it myself as a child, but I read it to both my kids back when they still let me read to them before bedtime. It was pretty much my favorite thing to read to them.
It’s kind of weird the way you read them what they like, and sometimes you (the adult) are just “meh” about it, though you read it anyway, of course, and do your best. But other times you the adult do an inner fist-pump and say a silent “yeah!” when they pick something you really like yourself.
Frog and Toad was that for me.

From all of this evidence, I think it’s pretty clear what The Lizzie Bennet Diaries is trying to do with Domino and Pemberley Digital:
Domino is going to be used to tell stories.
Not only is it an app that promotes transmedia but makes it EASY; you can access twitter, texts, videos, and who knows what else.
Pemberley Digital is taking their newest application, Domino, which was highly successful after “the demonstration pilot roared to over 1 million total views spread out across six videos”, and now Pemberley Digital is going to take that success to the next level and put Domino to some good use, and that means using it to tell stories. It is, after all, considered a narrative application that picks up on interesting facial expressions and vocal inflections.
And who do we know who has better facial expressions and vocal inflections than our very own Lizzie Bennet?
Domino is almost nearly specifically designed for Lizzie’s specific skill set; Domino needs someone who is great at telling stories, who can make any menial story into something compelling and interesting enough for the application to pick up on. She has nearly one hundred videos that have reached the success of over 20,000,000 views on YouTube, she is active across nearly all social media aspects including Facebook, Twitter, and Google+, and she’s already set up groundwork at Pemberley Digital after her internship, where she’s made connections with the people there, seen how things work, and has expressed delight and interest in everything that Pemberley Digital is doing.
Obviously, and I think the whole fandom agrees with this, this is going to be what brings Lizzie back to Pemberley Digital. But as for what her job is going to be, I think it’s been made nearly painfully obvious that the company of Pemberley Digital is very soon going to become heavily involved in the business of transmedia and narrative storytelling, in ANY fashion, be it their own adaptations of other works, personal or public vlogs, original stories, or anything else they may come up with.
I, for one, can’t wait to see what Bernie Su and his creative team are going to come up with next.
I’m not sure about the details, but I think this pretty much has to be true.

Reblogging just to say that this account precisely matches my own experience. I have my own reasons for feeling awkward around the LBD fandom, starting with having been the kind of kid (and now adult) who will always avoid social gatherings when possible, and for whom standing in the corner feeling awkward is a defining character trait. And then with LBD, I’m both older and more male than the large majority of fans. So on top of my nonsensical but inescapable subjective sense of being different and an outsider, in this case I actually am, demographically speaking, kind of different and an outsider.
So I completely sympathize with anyone who looks at the “Seahorses” thing and feels awkward and excluded. Because, again, for some of us feeling awkward and excluded is just our default mode, and it takes very little to trigger that feeling. Even the sight of a bunch of silly, harmless people enjoying themselves in Google hangouts can trigger it. Does that mean people should be prevented from being silly and harmless and enjoying themselves, just so I don’t have to feel bad from seeing that and wishing I could be part of it? Um, no, it doesn’t.
The first time I joined a Seahorses hangout I was scared. Not for anything having to do with the hangout; just because of me. Clicking that red button was really hard to do. My heart rate was noticeably elevated. Which is embarrassing to admit, but I feel like it’s worth sharing just so anyone else who feels that way doesn’t think they’re the only one.
Once I clicked that button, though, everything immediately got so much better. The people in the hangout were friendly and welcoming. I didn’t have to do or say anything; they were fine with me standing in the corner. Eventually I started talking, and they were respectful of my opinions, and laughed at my lame attempts at humor. And every time since then has been easy, and fun. (Well, except the time I joined during a Ke$ha dance party. That was a little too freaky, even for the new me. But it was interesting, at least for the few minutes before I fled.)
I think it’s completely valid for people to bring up how the Seahorses visibly enjoying themselves can make some people feel excluded. Because people who are prone to that feeling exist, and they probably exist in greater numbers in online fandoms than they do elsewhere The solution is not to stop the Seahorses from enjoying themselves. It’s to help and encourage the people who’d like to join in, but have a hard time doing so. Based on my experience, the Seahorses actually do a pretty good job of that.

Below the cut: A long wall of text in which I look at clues about Gigi and the next series.
I thought this part from Bernie Su’s first post yesterday was pretty interesting:
Q: Me again! I have really enjoyed seeing the Gigi spin-off but the use of domino still snags at me slightly. You previously said that Gigi’s arc is told through domino rather than her own personal channel for a clear reason – which we now know to be so that Wickham could be tracked down. While I understand that this is necessary to move the story along from a story writing point of view, I still don’t think it makes a massive amount of sense from an in world point of view. Care to wade in on this?
A: Yeah, it’s a weird balance. I say “weird” more for me because I’m trying to not give stuff away. I know it “snags” a lot of people but it was a move that really needed to be done.
I kinda thought that the Friday press release and subsequent Gigi/Fitz conversation would clue stuff in but I’m seeing nothing short of a dozen theories in the tags so obviously it wasn’t clear at all. :P
So yes, Pemberley Digital, a video/tech/app company, airing personal high level exec content on a demo, would be rather odd. But what if the long game of Pemberley Digital was more than a video/tech/app company?
At first I assumed this is just saying that they’re setting up Gigi and Pemberley (and Domino) to be part of the next series, or at least to be involved in establishing that series in-universe. But maybe Bernie Su was hinting that there’s something more specific out there to be found that the fans haven’t uncovered yet. Similar to the lydiabennettape.com site, in the time before that was actually discovered.
I don’t think that’s actually likely. But just in case I took a look back at the clues, to see what I might have missed.
The first thing I looked at was the Pemberley press release. Here’s what I assume is the most important part of that:
“Despite some initial doubts about the personal subject matter regarding the demo participants, the uniqueness of this application makes our potential almost limitless,” said Anne Reynolds, General Manager of Pemberley Digital. “We believe that Domino presents an exciting and dynamic channel of narrative documentation and communication. We will be seeking new partners aggressively and immediately.”
“Given the progressive nature of Pemberley Digitial, we are not seeking a mass quantity of partners, but will rather be making selective quality alliances where we can both benefit mutually in the long term.”
The ensuing Twitter conversation between Gigi and Fitz looked like this:
There was one more Gigi update the following day: Changing her jam to Rainer Maria’s “Hell and High Water”, calling out the lyric “a better version of me” in particular. Here are the lyrics of the song:

So, is Gigi identifying with the song because the “better version of me” is herself, and she’s New Gigi, who no longer is the pretty little fool who fell for Wickham? Or is the “better version of me” Lizzie, her new girl-crush?
Where is Gigi (maybe) moving to? Somewhere closer to Lizzie? Is there going to be a Lizzie job offer/partnership with Pemberley in the show’s conclusion, to go along with the romantic Dizzie resolution, and echo Austen’s ending which, after all, was not just a matter of love but also of a fairly resounding financial success on the part of the hitherto-financially-insecure Elizabeth?
I assume Bernie was expressing surprise that these clues hadn’t been picked apart in more detail by fans. I think I’m probably not as anxious to pick things apart myself as I was earlier because I know the show is ending. Instead of constantly looking down the tracks and trying to anticipate the next development, I’m just trying to enjoy what’s left of the ride.

OK, I love her, but Jen, be classy for FIVE seconds.
Fully disagree. She can do what she wants. And she has been classy for more than five seconds. Plenty of the time. This is just not those five seconds.
I was too busy staring at her dress to notice. God that thing is beautiful.
It wouldn’t surprise if she wanted to take that gesture back if she had the night to live over again. The photo sequence I saw showing her own immediate reaction suggests she felt that way as soon as the flashbulbs went off.
The thing I’ve loved the most about seeing her acceptance speeches and interviews throughout the awards season (and yeah, maybe I’ve become a little obsessed) is her willingness to just be herself and respond honestly as best she can in the moment despite what must be fairly surreal circumstances. I think she’s been classy for months now, pretty much nonstop, and if she slipped up and made an impulsive choice in that one moment it doesn’t erase that, at least not for me.
Let the haters pile on. I don’t doubt that some people will see an opportunity in this image to burst the little bubble that’s surrounded her lately. (And I’m not saying Kylie is doing that. I’m talking about other people.) But to those people I say, fuck off. She doesn’t owe you that. I think she did just fine.

Gas Association busted for falsifying signatures on a petition. Surprised?
Gas drillers were caught lying to public officials. About 66% of the signatures were falsified. Company blames a PR firm, which, it seems, specializes in fudging petitions.
The drillers used the petition to lobby a local government in Colorado to pass fracking laws. Shit is fracked up and bullshit.
Pro-fracking petition with fake signatures embarrasses gas association
A full two-thirds of those denied signing or endorsing a petition opposing a ban on fracking in Fort Collins. Not only was the petition a big fat lie, it was a laughably amateur effort to deceive the city’s lawmakers. From the Coloradoan:
Cali Rastrelli’s name is signed at the bottom of a petition submitted to the council. At the top, the petition says in bold letters, “Vote NO on the Fort Collins fracking ban.”
“Big Bill Pizza” is written in the blank where the signer could enter their business or organization.
“I haven’t signed any petition in the last month,” said Rastrelli, a Colorado State University student who lives in student housing. “I didn’t put my name on this.”
By the end of last week, the association was acknowledging that “mistakes were made.” A subsequent internal audit “identified numerous areas for improvement.” Now association officials are trying to retract the petition. And they are failing.More at Grist
