I work in a building that’s been closed to all use since lockdown, and the only other employee is the caretaker who lives in the apartment upstairs, so I’ve still been going in to the office all year. There’s a bulletin board in the kitchen area that had some newspaper articles on it that were too big to fit, so they hung down and covered the light switch below the bulletin board, and I kept reaching around them to turn on the light at lunchtime. Last week I finally processed the thought “no one is reading these, and by the time we reopen they’ll be even more out of date,” so I took them down and recycled them, and it is shockingly nice to just not have a barrier in front of the light switch anymore. Just a tiny annoyance that accumulated over time and is now gone.
Let’s clear away some more unnecessary obstacles, this year.

The I Love You lighthouse
is perched facing out into the Atlantic and was build 1855 and sends the first light 1860, on the exposed Minot’s Ledge —
named after George Minot, an 18th-Century Boston Merchant who lost a
valuable ship on the rocks prior to construction of the lighthouse. The
ledge is part of the Cohasset Rocks, off Massachusetts, USA.
When, in 1894, a new flashing lantern was installed in the 34-year-old lighthouse it had a 1-4-3 sequence and very soon the number sequence was taken to represent I Love You (I /1 flash, Love /4 flashes, You /3 flashes). Over the
years this simple lighthouse code has been a comfort to sailors from the
area, their sweethearts and families.

I agree that tumblr is objectively the best social media right now but we CANNOT let this go to our heads. If we act like this site is anything more than trash our hubris will lead to tragedy
I was reflecting on this the other day, as I was noticing (again) how going on Twitter feels so toxic to me at the moment. Like, yes; let us now amplify our collective outrage. Or maybe, just maybe, we could NOT do that?
I realize this is the experience I’ve curated for myself over there, not so much an inherent feature of the platform. But platform features lend themselves to certain types of use and misuse, and I think Twitter does have to answer for some of that.
I don’t do Facebook, so I won’t speak for that. But I see a lot of anecdotal mention of awfulness.
So yes, good job, Tumblr. Good little unprofitable trash site. You became a space where people could manifest their humanity, and through whatever combination of clumsiness and intent you’ve managed to retain that to the end of 2020.
Nothing lasts forever. But it’s something to have made it this far.
I don’t post them often enough, but I love the Whitebreasted Nuthatches. This is a male, his head cap is black, whereas the one of the female is blue-gray.
jsdkjk!!! basically, in the first season she was like dating different guys, and jonas in the gifs was one of them but it didn’t end well.. and then on christmas last year she recieved 100 red roses but it didn’t say who it was FROM, and she thought it was from her co-worker, cus he arrives at her place shortly after.. and then they actually become a couple for a year but they break up in season 2 cus she doesnt actually love him and blabla… but she still has feelings for jonas and they meet again in season 2, and the gifset is when she finds out that jonas actually sent her the roses, and NOT the guy she was in a pretty bad relationship with for a year!! so like both happy and sad i guess cus i interpret it as like.. her wondering what would’ve happened if she knew a year ago they were from jonas? and also living in a lie as to who sent them, and now being shocked to find out they were actually from the person she seems to have hoped they were from! idk if this is understandable but dkjasdjsdks
