Hillary Rodham Clinton knew that she was sometimes compared to fictional female nerds. Hermione Granger (the books were a bit too young for Chelsea, but she’d read them anyway), Leslie Knope (her staffers had shown her a few episodes of that show), Tracy Flick (she’d met Reese Witherspoon shortly after it came out). 

In fact, she was rather tickled by it.

But the young woman in the animated gif that her intern (Laura, 23, liked Jane Austen novels) had attached to the email wasn’t Emma Watson or Amy Poehler. In fact, she looked far more ordinary – a redhead sitting in a bedroom, looking into the camera, waving a stack of papers and apparently saying “I have done the research”. 

Hillary chuckled appreciatively, “If there’s one thing you can say about me, I have indeed done the research.” But perhaps this was a real person, and maybe her research should be turned into policy. 

She angled her screen towards her chief assistant (Melanie, 36, grew up in Kansas, just had a baby). “Do you know who’s in this picture?“ 

Melanie wasn’t sure. 

“Make a note to find out what her research is about.” 

“Yep,” Melanie scribbled on a notepad, like she’d done 19 times already that day. 

Hillary returned to her inbox, and that was that. For now.

Haha. I don’t normally reblog AoJE stuff that’s out-of-world (because Real), but the mental image of these two circling forever like Pirates of the Caribbean animatronics is too good to pass up. It makes me want to drift past them in a little boat.

Omg. And now I want that: an Autobiography of Jane Eyre dark ride, à la Disneyland. Or since I’m dreaming, a whole Webseries Storybook Land, with Lydia Bennet’s Wild Ride to Vegas, the I Didn’t Write This Spinny Kiss Teacups, and a Kissing in the Rain Ride, where you’d be carried past scenes of Lily and James kissing in never-ending downpours, then snarking on each other post-“cut”, before the final scene where they kiss on the porch as the music swells before you emerge into daylight.

I’d ride that one again and again. I don’t care how long the line is.

Seriously though, it seems increasingly likely that the time-stream continuum is flowing toward a future in which the two teams collaborate, producing a work whose creative gravity is so great it leads to a singularity.

Some say the singularity will be a black hole with tidal forces that tear fans apart as they spiral inward. Others say it will be a gateway to a dimension of light and wonder. Or both things could be true. Or neither. As a singularity, it’s a place where theoretical models break down, making subsequent events impossible to predict.

I misplaced my camera tuesday night. These past few weeks have given me a lot of food for thought.

Part One of this video could have been titled, “Rochester and the male gaze.” Like most of the awesomeness with this show, it was subtle. But I’m pretty sure it was there, and intentional.

It kind of reminded me of the use of the painting on the wall in the dinner scene way back when. So much of the show is rated G, or at most PG, that when there’s a reference, even an oblique one, to something that’s not it carries that much more weight.
