Argh. The only way to track this in real time at the moment is by following the @VO65_DONGFENG (Yann) and @DongfengRacing (shore team) Twitter feeds. Which, if you know about my love-hate relationship with Twitter, is doubly frustrating.
Anyway, it looks like Brunel has passed Dongfeng to retake the lead. But the wind near the finish is light, so who knows? Hopefully the livestream will come online shortly.

According to a spreadsheet made by some obsessive fan, the four episodes in the main LizzieBennet channel that did not feature Ashley were:
- Lizzie Bennet is in Denial (ep. 15, 2012-05-28), with Charlotte and Jane, including Laura Spencer’s Jane!Darcy saying, “It’s super important.”
- Enjoy the Adorbs (ep. 20, 2012-06-14), with Lydia and Jane, including these Lydia lines: “My name is Lydia Bennet and this is my HAUL!”, “Talk about your truth universally acknowledged! Am I right?”, and “drunken hookup marriage eff tee DUBS!” I wonder what that Mary Kate Wiles person is doing these days. She had real talent.
- Your Pitch Needs Work (ep. 41, 2012-08-27), in which Maxwell Glick’s Ricky Collins makes a job offer to Julia Cho’s Charlotte. She’d never take it, of course. I mean, he’s ridiculous!
- Summer Friends (ep. 69, 2012-12-03), with Lydia and Jane, including Jane!Lydia costume theater. Fun fact: This was the only time anyone not-Lydia played Lydia during costume theater. (The Lydia!Lydia happened in the above-mentioned “Enjoy the Adorbs”.)
Mary Kate Wiles has been in Yulin Kuang’s latest short film entitled, “I Ship It” (http://ift.tt/1yO5G34) as well as a bunch of her other stuff and can be found on Yulin’s Youtube channel as well as some stuff on Shipwrecked comedy.

Because the old one is one I’d been using since the first time some social media site wanted a profile pic, and I used a photo down at the beach that my wife took because I looked happy in it (because I was). And then it was mostly laziness (not wanting to have to go through that whole taking-another-photo thing) and consistency (yeah, this is that same person because look: same avatar).
But then 15-ish years go by, and it starts to look less like laziness or consistency and more like vanity, because of course I don’t actually look like that anymore. And I don’t want to appear vain.
So: New me. Just like the old me, only wiser.
Wise enough to realize, for example, that replacing the pic because I don’t want to appear vain is itself a vain act (because: caring what people think).
There’s no winning this ongoing-march-of-time thing.
I was having an interesting exchange with a mutual follow who was lamenting the passing of the years and the effect it has. And it reminded me of the other day, when my 80-something neighbor across the street shaded her eyes and peered at me during a conversation we were having and blurted out, “My god! What happened to you?” Referring, it turns out, to the gray.
Life, Margaret. Life happened to me.

In tangentially related news, I spent some quality time with this little lady in the garage yesterday:
She was perfectly amiable. I didn’t touch her, but I sat next to her for a while and at one point gave her a nudge with the corner of my phone to see how she’d react. She just shifted over a little.
At no point did I crush, squash, dismember, or mutilate her. When I checked back later she’d moved off into some dark recess.
It’s a little weird to navigate this boundary. Until recently I was a squash-all-black-widows-on-sight person, and this behavior of mine would have seemed thoroughly irrational. It still feels odd, and subject to an undercurrent of lingering arachnophobia.
Anyway. Baby steps.

This show is so good.
It reminds me of rachelkiley‘s episodes in the early days of LBD. They were so smart, so fun, with so many layers of meaning and humor and observation. It really brought home to me that when you are engaging with a fictional world you are inhabiting the writer’s imagination, and some writers’ imaginations are more exciting, interesting places to inhabit.
It’s not just about craft. It’s about how they see the world.
