Things I discovered while researching the price of Cazadores Tequila Reposado, 1L, with the awesome stag art on the label: It’s actually only the SECOND-awesomest tequila label.

isolatedextrovert:

If some thing must die, it should be my crazy week, at the hand of Tequila, with his side kick- Corona. My Friday’s best friends.

Things I noticed:

* The calendar shows a work holiday schedule different from my employer’s. We’re getting Wednesday and Thursday off each of the next two weeks. Your calendar shows Thursday and Friday off. I think your calendar is doing it better.

* That whiteboard is kind of fascinating. But then I’ve got a thing for whiteboards. The bird makes it. And there’s just enough of the rest to be intriguing without actually making much sense.

* Your office is pretty uncluttered. I don’t think I’ve ever worked in an office that uncluttered for more than a few weeks. I’m not, like, pathologically cluttered. But there always seems to be some flotsam that accumulates. Your have some clutter, but it’s artful clutter, like a still life.

* The maps are interesting. Pretty sure that’s a US map on the right hand wall, with Alaska and Hawaii showing in the lower left hand corner. And then a little US map on the far wall, under the calendar. And those color-coded regions on it: at first I thought they were time zones, but they’re not, are they? So maybe sales territories, or something like that?

* Business Payroll Services… I’m sorry; I know someone has to do it. But I think it would make me want to hasten the weekend with tequila, too.

* Caramel: pretty much my least-favorite candy.

And that’s not even getting into the cardboard box, and the shredder, and the coffee station, and the couch, and the guest chair. The whole thing is like a Sherlock story (original canon; not the lesser adaptations). It makes me want to study it and make inferences.

My 10 favourites of 2014:

the way he’s touching her feels too much like goodbye. by Sylvia Morris

This is fanart of Shipwrecked Comedy’s Kissing in the Rain. And if you haven’t watched this yet, I don’t know why not because I’ve gone on about it enough times.

My favourite thing about this one was honestly the background, I felt like I hit the right balance of giving them a setting without distracting from the kissing. That’s really thanks to whoever was in charge of this set though, so Yulin or Sarah Grace Hart and also Zack Wallnau on camera I guess. I really don’t know much about movies so I don’t know who to thank. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR SUCH A PRETTY WEBSERIES.

We’re replaying our interview with Meryl Streep, who is nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as the Witch in the film adaptation of Into the Woods

Meryl Streep: The Fresh Air Interview

“It’s not about the audience. It’s all about fooling the other actors into believing who you say you are. That’s hard, when you walk on set, when it’s a big makeup job. And I take my entire performance from them, so if they don’t look at me and hate me appropriately or love me the way they’re supposed to, … then I’m lost, I don’t have anything to go on.”

I’ve probably sat through too many meetings, constructing narratives from participants’ body language.

  • Sam and Dee: Sitting in conference rooms listening to presentations: Yup, this is exactly why I’ve dedicated my life to sailing alone around the world.
  • Libby: So, here we are, analyzing a bunch of mistakes that were mostly mine. Pass the Tums.
  • Sophie: My back hurts.

todaysdocument:

Bastogne, Belgium-Weary infantrymen of the 110th Regt., 28th Div., US 1st Army following the German breakthrough in that area. The enemy overran their battalion. (L-R) Pvt. Adam H. Davis and T/S Milford A. Sillars. Dec. 19, 1944

From the series: Photographs of American Military Activities, ca. 1918 – ca. 1981

Two days later the town of Bastogne and its American defenders would  find themselves surrounded and under siege as advancing German forces sought to control the town’s vital crossroads during the Battle of the Bulge.

I was confused about what the rank designation “T/S” meant, so I did some digging and discovered that it’s a typo that crept into the caption somewhere along the way to the national archives website. The original caption listed Sillars as “T/5”, or Technician Fifth Grade; basically a Corporal.

The Execution of Lady Jane Grey (detail), Paul Delaroche – 1833

Something about the moment Paul Delaroche chose to illustrate….really made this painting. Idk if that makes any sense.

This actually happened though. When she knelt down to put her head on the block she reached out for it but couldn’t find it and panicked, yelling out “Where is it?!”. Someone kindly guided her head and shoulders to the block.

Jane was 16-17 when she died. She was put to death for sitting on a throne she never tried to grab. Her parents and in-laws together came up with a plot to keep Catholic Mary off the throne after Edward the Protestant died. She willingly gave Mary back the throne, she never wanted to be Queen.

She was put to death after a lifetime of abuse from her parents over a plot contrived by her parents. The people who were supposed to love, guide, cherish, and take care of her. Even in her time her parents abuse of her was well known and frowned upon.

Her story is so tragic.

this is the painting that got me into loving art

cool-critters:

Splendid fairywren (Malurus splendens)

The splendid fairywren is a passerine bird of the Maluridae family. It is found across much of the Australian continent from central-western New South Wales and southwestern Queensland over to coastal Western Australia. It inhabits predominantly arid and semi-arid regions. Exhibiting a high degree of sexual dimorphism, the male in breeding plumage is a small, long-tailed bird of predominantly bright blue and black colouration. Non-breeding males, females and juveniles are predominantly grey-brown in colour. These birds are socially monogamous and sexually promiscuous, meaning that although they form pairs between one male and one female, each partner will mate with other individuals and even assist in raising the young from such trysts. Male wrens pluck pink or purple petals and display them to females as part of a courtship display. The splendid fairywren mainly eats insects and supplements its diet with seeds. There are four subspecies.
