Tuesday, September 22nd, 2015Where is this ??
Google image search reveals this to be La FƔbrica, the headquarters and personal residence of Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill. It is located in Sant Just Desvern, Spain. Built in the late 1800s as a cement factory, it was later abandoned, before Bofill acquired and converted it between 1973 and 1975.

rachelkiley: Iām looking at a preliminary, completely fucking basic, bare minimum budget for a…
Tuesday, September 22nd, 2015Iām looking at a preliminary, completely fucking basic, bare minimum budget for a project coming up soon and like, itās still so much money. Itās under-compensating people relative to their creative worth and not getting so much of the stuff we want and need, and using free sets and (some) free equipment, and itās still thousands of dollars for two days and I have no idea how weāre gonna pull it together.
I say this because Iām looking at this, thinking how tempting it would be ā and, quite frankly, how easy it would be ā to call in favors and ask people to do some of these things for free. But you canāt. You canāt do that. Weāre not in high school or college anymore, weāre not at the high end of the entertainment industry where we get paid the big bucks and can do fun side projects for free, but the people I know are working entertainment industry professionals, scraping by, and you canāt ask people to do what theyāve trained at, what theyāre good at, how they make (never enough) money, for free, because itās shitty. We arenāt entitled to make movies, no matter how much we want to, and if youāre doing something that requires a number of people, a lot of talent, youāve gotta make sure everyone has something to gain from it.
Not exposure.
I donāt say this to pat myself on the back and be like LOOK AT ME, IāM DOING THE RIGHT THING. I say it because I get how fucking tempting it is to fuck people over and excuse it somehow. It really is. When you wanna do something so bad and it seems so far out of reach because moneyās a fucking bitch that rules and ruins our lives (or rather, the lack of it does). And I talk about this a lot, about not screwing people over, about paying your cast and crew, because I know Iām too proud to be a hypocrite about it. Iām keeping myself accountable, like I want to keep everyone else accountable, and I hope you all will too.
Anyway. Ranting. Time to go off and drink and draw up plans to rob a small bank.
This post makes a lot more sense knowing what I know now.
Hereās where the In the Dark Indiegogo campaign is at as of a few seconds ago:
I hope they make the goal. But thereās a side of me thatās also kind of fascinated by what Rachelās going to do if they fall short.
But sheās also an actual person, and treating actual peopleās agonizing dilemmas as entertainment is shitty (even though itās also the basis of about 75% of whatās on TV these days). So I apologize for that side of me. Fuck off, side of me.
Iām pulling for you to make the goal, Rachel. I hope you get to make the film on your own terms. But if you fall short, please think about keeping the option open that, if the people you wish you could be compensating better decide they want to go ahead and do it anyway for less, itās okay if that happens.
Youāre doing everything you can to fight against people being taken advantage of. If your friends and co-creators appreciate that and choose to make you a (big, significant, and not to be minimized) in-kind donation by doing the project for less money than they deserve, thatās not the same thing as youĀ going into it from the outset cynically intending to take advantage of them. I know itās a slippery slope, and you were making a stand on principle. But if you have a chance to make something great, and if people want to help you do that, I think itās okay for you let them.

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2015My date of birth is 15/8/1923
Where I live there are many people well over 90
One lady is 100
and One gentleman is 103
I have no iodea who uses a computer
I somehow missed this when fvfarm posted it. Worse, I didnāt realize it was her birthday last month. What kind of poor excuse for a follower am I?
Happy birthday, fvfarm! :-)

Monday, September 21st, 2015Excited for The Epic Adventures of Lydia Bennet to come out next week? Wish you had access to behind-the-scenes tidbits like you sometimes got about the show itself?Ā
If for some reason you answered YESĀ to both of those questions, um, yay, good for you, I have a solution to your quandary!
We have added annotated book copiesĀ as a perk for our Indiegogo campaign for a short queer angsty horror-ish film called In the DarkĀ I am writing and directing. What this means is I will go through a copy of this book and write assorted facts about, well, writing it, and probably things completely unrelated to the book itself, throughout and mail it to you! No two copies will be the same!
This is an add-on perk, so you also get all the other cool things from the levels below it. Check it out now.
If you are unfamiliar with my incessant posting about this short film (sorry, sorry, sorry), it is a project wmilam and I are making in conjunction with YouTube Space LA and The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkmanās Skybound Entertainment. It is completely self-funded and has a very minimal budget. The premise of the film is that three friends are trying to figure out how to spend their last night together after one is infected with a virus that will leave her dead, or worse, by morning. You can learn more about it over on our Indiegogo page, or in this post here, or find out more about Skybound/YTSLAās program here.
Weāve only got a couple days left for crowdfunding, and there are a limited number of book copies available, so check it out while you can!
Look! Moar goodies!

Monday, September 21st, 2015I was tagged by liesā for the āaesthetic post with pictures on your phoneā meme, and the temptation to cheat was so damn high. I have only had my phone for a few months so I donāt actually have a lot of pictures on it. (And much of what I do have is pics of documents and control panels and damaged apartment fixtures and shit like that.) And I was in Paris when I got tagged. And I was in Munich for Oktoberfest this weekend. So I really couldāve stacked the deck, so to speak, with spectacular images.
But I didnāt. I could never lie to lies. I used only what was already on my phone before I got tagged.
These photos are:
- the back view of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. 850 years old and the dameās behind still looks great
- A45 AMG Mercedes
- the European Central Bank building with the skyline of Frankfurt in the background
- my corgi, Summer
- āThe Romanā statue in Erfurt
- thistles at PĆØre Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. i just love thistles
- cheesecake and cappuccino at Bitter & Zart in Frankfurt. it was my birthday
- beer & Apfelwein at a bar in Alt Sachsenhausen, Frankfurt
- on the hiking trail to Burg Eltz
I am tagging halesnoelleā and je-suis-pas-un-oiseauā, if theyāve got the time (and havenāt already done it).
Okay now, _this_ is the kind of quality aesthetic-post content Iām talking about.

Monday, September 21st, 2015Vintage Clothes Get a Fine Art Makeover
Shanghai-based boutique Purple Fish Bowl specializes in crafting unique vintage dresses and skirts with an old world glamour. By adding images of famous paintings from Claude Monet, Gustav Klimt and Vincent van Gogh among other masters, they redefine style with intelligence and fine art. Among our favorites are Van Goghās Starry Night, Monetās famous Water Lilies and the legendary The Great Wave off Kanagawa byĀ Hokusai.Ā
The inclusion of the worldās most famous pieces into 50s style baby doll garments adds a whimsical, yet extraordinarily elegant element. The presence of timeless works of art transform an ordinary dress into a classical piece of art. You can find more of their work at their Etsy shop.
