I really loved this episode.

As someone who hasn’t taken the time to get into Classic Alice or Carmilla (though people I follow have, and it’s been fun to vicariously enjoy your excitement), I’ve felt a little out in the cold lately in terms of fun webseries episodes to geek out over.

Which made today’s Talking Marriage with Ryan Bailey episode a gift.

I don’t know how if you need to be a fan already to appreciate what was going on. Possibly. But I just…

• The meta
• Evan and Sean narrating Ryan’s ineptitude
• The drinking game
• OMG! Annmarie!
• The ending

I laughed out loud 300% as much as with any previous episode.

Finally, return to the glory daze (daze!! hahaha) of college in the new episode of Talking Marriage! Sleep through the first minute! Ask your friend for notes on minutes 2-3. BS your way through the midterm! Grab some friends and head to the student union to watch a panel of stand up comics, and don’t forget to fill that water bottle with gin!

My headcanon has been that all plot points directly relating to Ryan’s wife are 100% factual. I also persistently advocate that the sound guy get more lines. Those streams flowed together in this episode in an interesting and unexpected way.

More than once someone has asked me whether Talking Marriage is worth watching. I always have a hard time answering. There’s a superficial level on which it would be easy to answer no, because if you’re looking for the kind of work Sean has done with Yulin, it’s not that.

But I’ve come to appreciate the show a lot. There’s an honesty to it. Even when it seems like it’s just being silly, there’s a layer of truth running underneath. Or sometimes right out on the surface.
