He’s the sort who can’t know anyone intimately, least of all a woman. He doesn’t know what a woman is. He wants you for a possession, something to look at, like a painting or an ivory box. Something to own and to display. He doesn’t want you to be real, and to think and to live. He doesn’t love you. But I love you. I want you to have your own thoughts and ideas and feelings, even when I hold you in my arms.

Can we talk about the tights.
The existence of photos like these (and similar photos from the 70s and 80s and so on) makes me wonder yet again why current-day movies set in this time never seem to be able to get the hair and clothing right.
Sorry for the lack of big-birding-weekend updates; I was running behind schedule after the Santa Ynez River estuary and forgot to post an update, and then the last several stops had me beyond cell coverage.
Santa Ynez River estuary: The waves were pretty big, which made it really hard to look for the White-winged Scoters that had been reported there, but I saw a Dunlin (#16), which was a very nice consolation. Then I headed to Miguelito Canyon Park where I saw a Varied Thrush (#17). After that I had a really nice time birding a really special spot, but added no county-year birds there so I’ll spare you the details.
The candy crab is a very colourful crab that grows from 1.5 to 2 cm. It lives on various species of soft coral in the Dendronephthya genus. It camouflages itself by mimicing the colours of the polyps among which it hides. It adds further camouflage by attaching polyps to its carapace. Colours vary depending on the colour of the coral, and may be white, pink, yellow or red. Those are just the new-for-the-county-year-list ones. There were lots of other fantastic birds. Any day you get a low-level flyby from a Peregrine Falcon is a very good day of birding.
Total count of new county-year birds for the trip: 15. Next stop: The Santa Ynez River mouth and Ocean Beach County Park.
Jim May Park got me an out-of-season Yellow Warbler who really made me work for it, and while I was waiting around for the decent view it eventually gave me three Tree Swallows flew overhead. So those were new-county-birds-for-the-year 11 and 12. Huzzah!
Tomorrow I’m going to the Santa Maria River estuary. I’ve never been there before, but the photos look amazing.
