I was looking at a goldfinch today and had a good view of its underside. The underside of the tail was white, with what looked like orange or reddish-brown tips. Could that narrow down which type of goldfinch it was? or am I misremembering what I saw and neither goldfinch would have a tail like that?

Okay, so I moved to the DC area for my new job and HOLY CRUD THERE ARE SO MANY BLUE JAYS! In New York I would only see them in the woods on hikes but here they’re in people’s yards!

They’re such beautiful birds, too. I know they’re super-common for many people, but for me they’re exotic wonders I can only dream of seeing.
