Art + Science = Awesome

Today the Department of Extraordinary Embroidery is checking out the work of Maryland-based photographer and textile artist Emma Mattson. She uses felt, thread, and french knots to create pieces of embroidery that look like botanical specimens, sometimes finished with pieces of fake moss or lichen to make them appear even more lifelike.

Follow Emma Mattson on Instagram to check out more of her moss embroideries. And keep an eye on her Spectremma Etsy shop where she sometimes sells them as well.

Tags: omg, and also, I never imagined lichen embroidery, I did not go visit lichens today for my acclimation low-altitude hike, instead I took rory to the Green Church by lower Convict Creek, because it was a couple of hundred feet lower, than the place I went last time, because it has a pokestop, but after I leveled up, I took Rory down to the creek, and he had so. much. fun., he was doing the thing where he runs full tilt, back and forth, because he's so happy he doesn't know what else to do.
