“Not everyone can spend time in the alps, but everyone can learn the names of the trees in a nearby park. Can you identify the birds calling in your backyard? Do you know the difference between a moth and a butterfly, or between a worm and a grub? Take the time to engage with both the little and big things growing around you and discover the joy of re-connecting with nature.”

Identification of animals and plants is an essential skill set

Tags: also, hm, this is excellent advice, it's not just that it's an essential skill set, for would-be ecologists/field biologists, it's just fun, it's like you're at a party, called your life, do you want to spend the whole time alone in a corner?, or do you want to meet and learn about some of the other partygoers?, this analogy has a problem, b/c my actual party behavior is 100% stand-in-the-corner, maybe that's part of the reason, I find bugs and birds and plants so interesting, b/c I'm starved for connection, and unlike people, I don't find them intimidating.
