I tried posting these pics before the show, but reception was crap so they wouldn’t upload properly BUT THAT’S OKAY because even as excited as I was I had NO IDEA how awesome the show would be!!!! I was expecting a regular concert format, like song-applause-maybe some talking-another song-etc. But instead they were actually showing the movie? And the orchestra played the score as it went along??? (which, like, COOLEST THING, I AM SUCH AN ORCH NERD U DONT EVEN KNO) And the singers sang along with the movie too?????? So basically the only audio from the original movie was the dialogue and the sound effects, and everything else was completely live. I was trying to imagine the logistics that went into coordinating the video with the conductor, the soloists, the orchestra, the choir, the lights… and was just like

And not only that, but they had all the original cast singing!!!! So not just Danny Elfman, but Catherine O’Hara, Ken Page, Paul Reubens…OMFG. Apparently the only one they didn’t have was the guy who played the Mayor of Halloweentown, because he’s passed away. And because Danny Elfman sang several characters, some of whom sang in the same songs as Jack, they had five soloists who played the various other singing characters, and they were honestly great; I didn’t even realize that they weren’t the original voices of Lock, Shock, and Barrel until the end, when they did a reprise of ‘Kidnap the Sandy Claws’ with Elfman, O’Hara, and Reubens (who were the original voices) as an encore. Danny Elfman also did an encore of his rendition of Oogie Boogie’s song, which was just as good as Ken Page, even though it was different. And there was an intermission, after which they had a violinist playing a virtuosic medley of all TNBC music before they got back into the movie, which was like OMFG O.O (had to search on twitter for her name – Sandy Cameron. Also she was in costume, which was pretty damn cool).

AND THEN.

They’d already done the two encores, so I figured they were just coming back for another curtain call, but Danny came back out with his electric guitar and he played DEAD MAN’S PARTY WITH ORCHESTRA ACCOMPANIMENT AND IT WAS FUCKING A M A Z E B A L L S. Apparently it had been twenty years to the day since he’d last performed it, because he said he was never going to play Oingo Boingo stuff again.

I CAN’T EVEN

HOW DID I GET SO LUCKY

Whoa.
