“Apparently there’s such a thing as a parody web series being too
good. The hit series ‘Adult Wednesday Addams’ created by Melissa Hunter
has disappeared from YouTube after the original creators of ‘The Addams
Family’ flagged it.

“The web series shot to fame recently after an episode about Wednesday Addams getting her revenge on catcallers went viral and earned her international press coverage — enough to catch the attention of the Tee & Charles Addams Foundation, who hold the copyright for the work of American cartoonist Charles Addams.”

“Adult Wednesday Addams” Pulled From YouTube Over Copyright – New Media Rockstars

I mean. I get it. But I’m still sad.

NONONONONONONOooooooo!!!!!!!

PARODY IS FAIR USE!

Repeat it after me: parody falls under the protection of fair use.

This web series is not a violation of US Copyright Law because (say it with me one more time):

PARODY IS FAIR USE!!!!!!!!!

Parody is indeed fair use.

imaginarycircus:

What a cool idea for a story. You are a dream appraiser in an society and economy that is dream based, probably in a world in which dreams and thoughts shape reality. There are schools that encourage imagination and creativity and skimp on science, math, and logic. The appraiser is brought a child who dreams in geometry and logic and will be destroyed if they can’t alter her dreams. The appraiser has to safely deliver the child to a secret society of mathematicians, engineers, and scientists who dream of a world that is both logical, rigorously scientific and mathematical—and also unruly, beautiful, unpredictable and full of strange symbolism and magic.

A couple introductory points:

  1. The quote I posted from this book now has more notes than I think anything else I’ve ever posted on Tumblr. (I do know that snappy quotes are more the done thing around here than thousand-word book reviews; I just like writing the book reviews, and since I don’t…

A+ review would recommend.

Seems like it was only yesterday that I hadn’t changed the world. It’s amazing to see how many people I’ve helped. People I’ve made better. And some that still need my help and don’t yet know it.

People who say Orcas being in SeaWorld is wrong are the kind of people who put dogs on vegan diets: they want to help animals but they’re doing it all wrong.

Putting a dog on a vegan diet is ignoring the basic physiology and needs of the animal.

Putting an orca in a small barren tank and subjecting it to a life of boredom, stress, and inevitable social fracture is ignoring the basic physiology and needs of the animal.

Besides the outright PETA-embracing few (which actually isn’t that many, esp. in knowledgable groups), I don’t think you’ll find many people against Seaworld who’d simultaneously be advocating vegan dog diets.

Seaworld presently deserves all the criticism it’s getting.

In what ways is SeaWorld different than zoos? Both are beneficial as they educate the populace about wildlife and in cases of endangered species, help the small population of the species recover.

Zoos don’t typically have their animals in circus-style performances. Zoos tend to priortise education/educational value. Zoos work to have decent habitats for their animals.

Seaworld’s orca-related “things” aren’t really that educational. The animals exist for their ongoing show routines, and the tanks are bare and featureless – hardly anything resembling a proper habitat.

As for endangered species, re: orca – orca as a whole aren’t endangered, just select populations. One of those populations is the Southern Resident Killer Whales, which Seaworld’s initial capture efforts actually grievously wounded in the first place. Seaworld has been conspiciously absent from conservation efforts re: these animals in particular; I also haven’t seen any indication they teach park visitors anything about those whales, or the problems they face. (Or what people can do to help, for that matter. There’s an incredible amount of actionable material re: wild orca/ecosystem integrity on the West Coast.)

Seaworld has no more SRKW; they all died a long time ago. Seaworld’s orca are useless genetically for any kind of conservation effort; not to mention, captive-born animals wouldn’t be suitable for release of any kind anyways.

Okay but is it just me or have all the New Peter and Wendy videos been taken off YouTube?

They do appear to have been removed or made private or something. Possibly it has to do with the “Big Announcement” Kyle talked about in the video from yesterday? Maybe they have some kind of new video distribution partnership, or something, such that they wanted to move the videos to another account?

Seems like a weird thing to do, though, in the sense that it invalidates all the posts and links pointing at the old locations for the videos. So maybe it was a mistake?

Hopefully we’ll find out soon. newpeterwendy: any news?

I made two gifs for a set and then found out I couldn’t download any more videos to finish it! I won’t be able to gif their shows unless the videos come back!

It’s quite bizarre. I’ve tried every means I can think of to ask Kyle and the other creators why the season one videos have all been made private, and it’s just been complete radio silence from them. The show won a couple of IAWTV awards tonight (for orangepenguino’s production design; yay Katie! as well as for transmedia), and there have been lots of congratulatory tweets flying around, so it’s not like they’re offline. I think they must be intentionally choosing not to say anything about it.

Anyway, hopefully it will all make sense eventually, and the videos will be made available again (maybe on strawburry17’s YouTube channel, since she made a mention in a preview video recently that New Peter and Wendy videos were going to be airing there in a weekend slot, or something like that). So, maybe they entered into some kind of agreement to release the videos there, and it’s all hush hush until some Big Announcement is made, and a condition of the agreement is that the videos be taken down at EpicRobotTV in the meantime?

That’s the best guess I can come up with.
