I Didn’t Write This is a new literary adaptation series in which I adapt and direct excerpts of poetry and literature written by other people. Basically one long commercial for why we read. My goal is to get parts of poetry and literature stuck in your head like a good song. Or John Mulaney’s standup.
Sometimes I say things at the end of the videos; you don’t have to watch those parts. New episodes every Friday, until we run out of world enough and time. Subscribe, maybe?
We’re using “yulinisworking” as the official Tumblr tag on this series, because IDWT and “I Didn’t Write This” get a decent amount of outside traffic as it is.

Sound by Justin Lee DixonSonnet 116 is one of my absolute favorite poems, and given its lovely echo of marriage vows/first line “Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments”, I felt it would be more fitting to cast an IRL couple in its adaptation.
Shawn Ryan and John Ainsworth are a wonderful couple I’m lucky to count as friends. They run a fantastic theater camp together called Camp YATC, and I’m so incredibly jealous of all their students for the talent they get to learn from. Since I was a bit busy this week with production/KitR release prep, I recorded an interview with them on how they first met to supplant my usual talking parts.
Also since this was video was hideously late and I’m very very sorry about that, I’m going to be vlogging throughout my two shoots this weekend (one for Shipwrecked and one for IDWT) and will be uploading a quick vloggy behind-the-scenes video hopefully by this Friday so you guys can see what I’ve been up to/why I wasn’t able to upload sooner! :)

Wonderful (as usual). It was fun having it be real people rather than actors playing fictional people. Not that there’s anything wrong with actors playing fictional people; that’s fun too.
Fun fact: Watching Yulin videos in a public place (coffeehouse killing time until my son’s band practice is done) is a good way for me to practice not caring about strangers being able to see me be emotionally affected by something. Not that people notice; I’m not the kind of person people notice.
Alternate fun fact: It’s probably a sign of my lack of literary cred that my primary association with this sonnet is the scene from Sense and Sensibility when Kate Winslet’s Marianne and Greg Wise’s Willoughby geek out over it.
