oshiokiyo:

As I am sure most of you know, there have been various alerts to keep your black cats indoors and safe this Halloween. Apparently some very sick people like to torture black cats as some Halloween ritual, so we really need to keep our kitties safe from the sickos who like to hurt them for their own amusement..

It is advised to keep your cats indoors a good week before Halloween and a few days afterwards, and, it goes without saying, keep a very close eye on them the day/night of Halloween.

As a black cat owner myself, I was never aware of this issue until recently, so just in case you haven’t seen the alerts, I thought Luna would be the best spokesperson to bring the Sailor Moon community some awareness!

Lets be responsible kitty owners, keep them safe, and enjoy the spookiest holiday of the year!

I’ve always heard about this, but part of me thinks it sounds pretty folklore-ish. Snopes has an article that tries to get to the bottom of it; the upshot is that it’s certainly true that many animal shelters restrict cat adoptions around Halloween due to these fears, but actual evidence regarding the incidence of human-on-cat animal cruelty spiking around Halloween is inconclusive.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t keep your cat indoors on Halloween, but the evidence appears to show that even if you don’t, the risk may not be much different than it is on any other night.
