Also- shout out to my uncle who is the artist of the painting in the background :)

It was just a small thing during an episode that had many things I loved, but I thought it was very effective the way the painting was partially hidden (by Adele, then by Jane) at the beginning, then was revealed when Jane sat down and she and Rochester were alone. Because it wasn’t until then that I realized what it showed: an abstract female figure in a suggestive pose.

You know what’s funny? I see a woman about to run away in that painting. I like your interpretation a lot though.

Haha. Your interpretation of the painting adds an additional awesome layer of meaning. But: spoilers! :-)

In effect the painting became another character in the scene, hovering between Jane and Rochester. Its bold colors and suggestion of the “male gaze” added to the sexual tension, underscoring Rochester’s interest in Jane, his repressed passion, even as he struggled to keep it under wraps.

I’ve made a conscious effort not to analyze too much. From the beginning I was drawn in by the show’s sincerity, and didn’t want to break the spell by talking too much about what was happening in our world, as opposed to Jane’s. I’ve limited myself mostly to “liking” others’ commentary, or adding my own brief comments without reblogging. But I’m breaking that rule here, so I might as well mention something else I’ve said already in a few places.

I was really impressed by the episode. It was long, and complicated, with the Adele portion at the beginning, the interaction between Jane and Adele and Grace about the fingerpainting, the Jane+Rochester part shown here, and then the final re-entry of Grace and Adele and the opening of the present. And of course, it’s all one take.

I noticed that thing some others have commented on, with the lines seeming a little stilted at times, but I don’t hold that against the show. Besides seeing it as a potentially valid way for the characters to behave in that moment, I consider it in the context of how the show is being made: as a labor of love by a young (in one case, really young) cast and crew, stealing time away from the demands of their lives to create and share this beautiful thing. If they had an extra couple of days for rehearsals and additional takes, I’m sure they could have made the final product even better — but that’s like saying the scene that introduced Rochester would have been better if he’d ridden a motorcycle with Pilot in a sidecar: Why, yes. That’s probably true. And which of us is going to supply this hypothetical motorcycle?

I’ve always been a sucker for a long, unbroken shot. I know creating one is technically demanding, but the result can be so powerful. It removes the artificiality of a cut-together scene, puts the viewer in a real moment. But it’s a high-wire act. They can’t pick and choose from multiple takes, using the best version of each line, tweaking the timing. What you see is what you get. One flub and it’s ruined.

I think about the degree of difficulty of that scene, and I get excited about how awesome the result was. I loved it. I love the ambition of the show’s creators. They’re not just going through the motions. They’re pushing themselves, trying to make something worthy of their love of the material.

I’m so grateful. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Mystical by ~PainkillerZombie

I’m thinking of setting up a second aquarium. We have an unused 10 gallon gathering dust in the garage; maybe I’ll have a go at making a Walstad-style planted aquarium, and use it as home for a single pampered betta.

I always feel bad for those abused bettas in the rows of little plastic cups at the pet shop. I’m not sure if I’m anthropomorphizing, but I’ve always felt, watching bettas, as if they have a rich emotional life, more so, maybe, than other fish. I think it might just be that they’re more expressive than other fish, trailing those grand fins behind them or flaring them out to display.

Although I’m no ornithologist by any means, I think these may be whooping cranes.

No, those appear to be American White Ibises (Eudocimus albus). They’re beautiful birds; I wish I could see them where I live.

when you come across somebody you don’t know saying mean things about you.
And the thing that they’re mad about is something you never wanted and wasn’t your idea or even something you liked but it has your name on it, so they hate you for it; but even if you could explain to them what happened…

Following the LBD meta-show has been more interesting to me in some ways than the actual show.

The Magical World of Living Light

This is the mysterious spectacle of bioluminescence. Its hard not to revel in the beauty of this remarkable natural phenomenon. These glowing creatures are primarily a product of the ocean. They are the primary source of light in the largest and darkest area of habitable land on Earth, the deep sea. On land, they are most commonly seen as glowing fungus on wood (foxfire) or in the few families of luminous insects (fireflies).

“Most people have neither the time nor the inclination to look up individual studies of whether, say, global warming does in fact cause more hurricanes. The best we can do, most of the time, is heed the advice of those whose opinions we respect, be they better-informed friends, clueless-but-cocksure folks who seem credible because they share our general worldview, or actual experts.”

Gian Lorenzo Bernini: The Rape of Proserpina, 1622.

Bernini completed his first bust at the age of 10! He was not only a prolific sculptor (and child prodigy), but was also a painter, draftsman and architect.

Okay. If thegetty is reblogging it, I shall accept this Bernini post as credible without the need for corroboration.

Wednesday, June 19th, 2013

The following came via an ask reply from photolies, with whom I’ve been exchanging messages lately about (you guessed it) the ‘lies’ Tumblr URL:

Ah, I see you don’t understand, or rather you’re confused on what trading followers or URLs is all about? Basically, the people that covet your URL are willing to do promotions in exchange for your URL. Basically, they would make links to your new url telling their followers to follow you on your new blog. There are some blogs with thousands of followers that can get you hundreds of followers. So when they say they’ll give you followers, trade followers, or promo you, any of these means simply that they’ll get you more followers through links on their blogs. In addition, some popular blogs on Tumblr have previously sold their URLs for money via Paypal, so I’m sure people have requested to buy your URL.

As you have previously said, there is a subculture, if you will, of people who trade URLs like baseball cards. The primary reason they covet your URL is that it is one word. Many one word URLs are saved by people hoarding them and in many cases have never even been used! So to find this URL in use by you is really amazing. In fact, people covet one word url’s so much that they look them up in hopes of finding a good vacant URL. The reason behind this is that these one word URLs generate more traffic to their blogs which leads to potential followers. In fact, it can be seen across Tumblr that people with one word URLs have thousands of followers despite what they posts simply because of the massive amounts of traffic generated by their URLs that attract people to their blog.

So to summarize all of this, people want your URL for one reason only, and that is to gain followers. They promise you promotions that will gain you a few hundred followers so that they can make “profits”, if you will, of thousands of followers.

I personally want the URL because it’s a clean URL, I’m really quite fond of it and would be proud to have such a clean URL. I feel that the URL would go with the photography that I reblog and post on on my blog, Photolies. I have the word in my URL but I would like a shorter more memorable way of describing the blog that I express myself in daily.

I want to thank you for even considering me, all I can say is whoever finally acquires your URL will be a very lucky and very happy blogger. Have an excellent day and if you have any more questions for me on any subject matter concerning anything at all, please feel free to inbox me (ask or fanmail). Once again thank you for your consideration of my request and good day to you. :)

Thanks! I’ve been curious about this for a while now, and your explanation helped straighten me out. I’m still enjoying using the lies URL, but if and when I move on your name will certainly be in the hat for the big drawing.
