Just thought I’d mention that I’m really not good with horror films, and just a GIF set of that short film “The Audition” with Ashley Clements was enough to leave me feeling really unsettled and I needed a drink and a purring cat and some cheerful music to make me feel kind of better.
And now it occurs to me that women have entire catalogs of these nightmare scenarios in our heads because they’re just for us, extra special, and that pisses me off.
I’m an anti-fan of horror, too, and it bothered me to look at that gifset, but I just moved on and tried not to think about it. I don’t have a problem with Ashley doing whatever kind of work she chooses to, and on some level I’m happy to see her getting a chance to demonstrate her talent. But it’s not for me.
Part of what bothers me in this case, i suspect, is the long association I have with watching her in LBD. Consciously I’m aware that there’s lots of horror out there, and this is just an actress playing a role. But subconsciously there’s part of me that sees Lizzie being abused, is very much not okay with that.
