I just checked, and lydiabennettape.com is still up, with 16 hours 58 minutes to go on the countdown clock. I’m wondering how the end game will play out.

Spoiler-ish speculation follows.

It could count all the way down, then just disappear, or be replaced with a new message from the video’s purveyor, after which we’d get our explanation of how the day had been saved in Lizzie’s video tomorrow. Except that would be an unimaginative waste of a transmedia opportunity. So I’m confident it won’t happen like that.

Putting off whatever “it” is until the countdown timer actually expires would mean it wouldn’t happen until midnight Pacific tonight, such that (in-universe) Lizzie couldn’t see and tape her reaction to it for tomorrow’s video unless she stayed up until midnight, which would be pretty uncharacteristic for her. I could see this case being an exception, though.

But it would also mean that we fans would mostly miss it as well. So I’m reasonably confident it won’t go down (ha! I make pun!) at midnight.

My theory is that Darcy will do his fixing of the sex tape site during the day today, and that we will get to experience it happening via transmedia. So keep an eye on those Twitter accounts.

The show’s creators might well have something cooked up involving the email addresses they’ve been collecting from the site. I could imagine everyone who’s “pre-ordered” the tape receiving a personal email at some point today, perhaps as the climax to a sequence of cryptic Team DaFiGi tweets. That email could purport to be from some obscure company (if they’re going to honor Austen’s plot point about Darcy wishing to keep his involvement secret, which I expect they will) that has suddenly acquired the rights to the tape, or to the entire sleazy operation. The email presumably would explain that the tape will not be released after all.

Or they could do something completely different and (probably) more imaginative. But I’ll be surprised if an email that turns out to be from a certain dashing young CEO isn’t sent to everyone who’s registered with the site sometime during the day today, in conjunction with the tacky countdown site being replaced by something much more reassuring, like a takedown notice.
