unacaritafeliz:

I hate doing stuff like this (asking for attention) but it’s my birthday and I know many of you would wish me a happy one if you knew but you probably don’t know so I thought id tell you.

Happy birthday, Rae! I apologize for being such a crappy online friend as to have failed to keep track of the date on which the world was fortunate enough to have you in it.

I can’t express how it feels to have overlooked this. Fortunately, I have some friends who are good at expressing things. Like this guy:

image

Please, Edgar, tell Rae how I feel about having overlooked her birthday.

image

At the same, now that I know, I do wonder how many birthdays you’ve had. Because…

image

You know what, though? It doesn’t matter. Every birthday is cause for celebration. But what am I thinking? I should be giving you something. Maybe I should write you a poe-em?

image

But no; there’s no time. And you’re on the opposite side of the world; how could I even make it so my birthday wishes manifest on your corporeal plane?

image

Maybe I could call on a friendly spirit to summon a group of revelers?

image

Okay; maybe not. But perhaps Constables Jim and Jimmy could help?

Hm. I guess I’ll just sum up, Rae, by sending you best wishes on behalf of all of our mutual friends, be they in-person and corporeal, insubstantial spirits from across the internet, or denizens of…

Yeah. That’s it.

Happy birthday, Rae!

Tragically so. When will Monday come?

Like I know (roughly) how old you are but it never occurred to me that you’re a parent. And that your kids are older than I am. God, you must think we’re all children.

90% of the time I don’t even think about it. I mostly follow people because of shared interest, and when collective squee is happening no one’s checking ID.

5% of the time I notice, but because I’m on the other side of it. I follow several people who are significantly older than I am, including the person from whom I reblogged that post.

The remaining 5%: Yeah, sometimes. But it’s like that post (that I can’t find now, because I can’t find anything on Tumblr) about how you don’t stop being 1, or 2, or 20. Those earlier selves live on inside you. On the (few) occasions when I notice how young some of you are, it’s more that I’m recognizing and relating to things I still feel in myself, even if it can be hard to see those things in a mirror.

are there pictures??

There are two or three that I know of. (Along with being haircut-averse I also was fairly photo-averse during that period.) I just took a quick look on facebook (which seems to be the place that weird old family photos show up tagged with my identity) but no luck.

If I can easily find a physical one I’ll scan and post. Probability isn’t high; I keep my autobiography in the form of tumblr tags mostly because of how disorganized I am in the physical realm.

Hi Hi Hi. What is this spreadsheet thing you tagged me in? What are we doing? Just summarising episodes of webseries? I’M SO CONFUSED PLEASE CLARIFY (illuminate?) THIS FOR ME.

Thursday, July 24th, 2014

Once upon a time there was a webseries called the Lizzie Bennet Diaries. It was new and wonderful and I wanted to play in the ball pit for many extra hours. So I summarized every episode in a Google docs spreadsheet. I may have gone a little overboard.

Then came the end of LBD, and lo, it was sad.

But then came Sanditon, and I was inspired to continue to spreadsheet. And then AoJE (which I realize is not, or at least until now has not, been your thing). And after a bit of that came the Time of Great Flakiness, and I stopped adding data to my spreadsheet. And in that time a loud wailing went up from every person who cared deeply about my ongoing obsessive maintenance of a spreadsheet listing every episode of every webseries I ever watched ever. That is to say, from no one.

But now a lovely user named robinvenetia has dared to disturb the universe by creating a spreadsheet of NMTD episodes! Yay! Let the rejoicing commence anew!

The idea, I guess, is that for a sufficiently obsessed fan, a spreadsheet of episodes is a pretty nice thing to have around. You can direct people to the episode in which so-and-so did such-and-such, thereby seeming super smart or ridiculously good at memorizing obscure details. You can answer questions and settle arguments and do all the things that the net, generally, has made possible, such that only old people even remember the days when you had to sit around with your friends like dumbasses trying to remember the name of that movie that Keanu Reeves was in that one time.

So I tagged some people that have exhibited obsessive love of webseries in the past, on the theory that one or more of them might be fooled into agreeing to contribute to the creation of spreadsheets listing episodes of beloved webseries.

One of those obsessives was you.

And they all lived happily ever after.
