After the Fire … New Life
The areas that were burnt in our devastating fires in early 2015 have now largely burst out in new growth. One of the most spectacular areas I’ve seen within the fireground are these hill sides full of blooming grass trees (Xanthorrhoea species).
These plants were important in aboriginal culture. The flower spikes were used as fishing spears, and the resin from the core of the plant was used as adhesive.
In my earlier post you could see how this same area looked shortly after the fire. The transformation is stunning.
