letdownyourlonghair:

Lilo & Stitch was the first Disney movie since Dumbo to use watercolor for each one of its sets. Ric Sluiter, the film’s artistic director, made this decision after noticing that Chris Sanders had used watercolor in his artwork when he presented his film idea. He felt it captured the warm atmosphere of Hawaii and was reminiscent of the children’s storybooks that inspired Walt when he began work on his first animated feature film.
