I  googled for additional info (and better photos) of that glacial moraine just northwest of Bishop. If you’re into geology, the Eastern Sierra along US 395 is kind of ridiculous. It’s all there: Volcanoes of various sorts, mountain building, glaciers, fossilized streambeds, 450-million-year-old roof pendants…

Homeward bound from Mammoth. Coming down the Sherwin Grade, I’ve always loved the view of Pine Creek Canyon, how you can see the glacier’s passage: the broad “U” it carved out, and the moraine where it dumped its debris.
