Landmannalaugar, Iceland

National Geographic Photo of the Day for September 13, 2012

The first beams of a June day spotlight a ridge of rusty volcanic rhyolite at Landmannalaugar, a hikers’ favorite. The Haarbergs hiked up to an overlook after midnight; at dawn, around 3 a.m., the clouds gave them a tiny break. “Five minutes and it was over,” says Orsolya.

An episode in the life of socially awkward misanthropic genius, Edgar Allan Poe. Some late visitor entreats upon Edgar’s door. Also an unpaid endorsement for the Girl Scouts of America. Send us thin mints. Happy Halloween!

A companion sketch to A Tell Tale Vlog.

I actually adore ‘A Tell Tale Vlog’. Can we be pen pals or something? How do we set this up?

We’re in LA; let us know if you tire of Thornfield Hall and make it out to California anytime soon. We’re wrapping up A Tell Tale Vlog but we’ve got new projects in the works and are always on the lookout for fun collabs.

*giggles and flees to the moors*

Vidcon2014 it is.

We’ll see you in Anaheim.

Yep. I ship it.

“As for Charlotte herself, I had never paid much attention to spiders until a few years ago. Once you begin watching spiders, you haven’t time for much else—-the world is really loaded with them. I do not find them repulsive or revolting, any more than I find anything in nature repulsive or revolting, and I think it is too bad that children are often corrupted by their elders in this hate campaign. Spiders are skilful, amusing and useful. and only in rare instances has anybody ever come to grief because of a spider.”

E.B. White explaining why he wrote Charlotte’s Web. You can read the full letter at Letters of Note: A book is a sneeze (via dendroica)
