Before finding this Lesser Nighthawk, I don’t think I had ever seen a nightjar’s feet. Usually when you find them, they’re in flight or holding perfectly still as little bird loaves on a log. Even in field guides they’re generally depicted as footless forms. So I felt particularly lucky that this bird was putting its best foot forward. (at Phoenix, Arizona)
