Staff naturalist Alex Patia, @birdman_patia, photographed this displaying male sooty grouse (formerly known as the blue grouse) on a recent hike up Cascade Pass. In early summer the deep booming call of male sooty grouse can often be heard throughout forests in the Pacific Northwest. The males typically call from high up in trees so it is a special opportunity to see one in display! http://ift.tt/2tGWMoE
