bourbakiaxiom:

The flag our parents’ and grandparents’ generations fought and died for…

Or more correctly, the flag representing the ideals for which they strove.

I think it sad that Remembrance Day (aka Armistice Day) and ANZAC Day are hijacked by Nationalists. The reality is that soldiers of all nations returned (if they did) with a clear determination for ensuring peace, the avoidance of war, and the use of peaceful means to resolve international conflicts. The United Nations is the clearest practical expression of these ideals which they bequeathed to us.

To displace the UN, and other international initiatives such as the Geneva Conventions, and the International Court of Justice, and the Human Rights Commission, by narrow nationalistic patriotism at these times is an insult to their legacy.
