Tags: this is actually a common feature of many highly critical roles, in which doing your job perfectly, means there is no drama, i've seen it in system administrators, release engineers, qa/test leads, people who work the foredeck on racing sailboats, people who crave recognition tend not to do well in those roles, and when they occupy them they tend to create huge almost-catastrophes, that they can then heroically save, except when they don't, the people I love working with, are the ones who don't crave recognition, but instead crave success, and are intrinsically motivated to achieve it, even if doing so means they don't get applause.
