there is a fox news video going around in which some news people claim that in australia you:
– cannot own a gun
– can get put in jail for expressing unpopular opinions
those things are both just straight up lies.

As to the implied question of how such a make-believe news network could come to be, the answer has two halves. One half, sure, is the context of the US (and earlier, British) media ecosystem that allowed the invasive species to establish itself and displace the gentler species of native news fauna that preceded it. But the other half involves looking at the invasive itself, and for that you need to follow its evolution all the way back to the far-off places where it originally came to be, places with unlikely names like “Adelaide” and “Melbourne”.
Ironic, isn’t it, that Rupert Murdoch’s network would now be furthering its commercial interests by lying to Americans about Australia?
