There’s this crazy guy who hears voices telling him to build a boat in his backyard. Hilarity ensues.

Oh. Is this an older movie or a more recent one? I remember watching the tail ending of a movie…

This was the recent movie by Aronofsky, starring Russell Crowe. I had to fight against my disinclination to watch it, which I think came from a lifetime of experience with banal versions of the story, and with being meh about Hollywood biblical epics generally. But then, within the first minute, it was clear that it was going to be very different than that.

It was a strange combination of a slightly skewed, but cool, tone and unexpected themes, along with your basic movie cliches and plot conventions to move things along. In places there was an overt cheesiness that was nevertheless not the cheesiness I was expecting. Anyway, it worked for me.

Emma Watson has some powerful scenes, including one in particular that was pretty harrowing. So fans of movie!Hermione might be interested in checking it out for that reason.
