Scattered thoughts.

  • Nice bit of foreshadowing, from “Consequences” (Ep. 24), with Rochester telling Jane re: her videos: “If you can bring down an entire company I’ll be the first to congratulate you.”
  • I mean, I’m worried about Rochester in an…

Simon proposes to her because, in his own out-of-touch way, he’s in something like love with her and wants to marry her. And the “it will help us not to be assigned to separate locations” thing was just an excuse (albeit an excuse he was also making to himself, not just to Jane).

And yes, I know it is possible to cite a long list of reasons why he is _not_ in love with her, both at the level of his externally visible words and behavior and in terms of where he’s actually at and who he is as a person, that the thing he’s feeling isn’t “true” love or “the love Jane deserves”, that it’s mixed up with his anxieties about the trip and the desire to have Jane around not just because he loves her but for other more-selfish reasons as well. Nevertheless, that’s what I think is (or was) going on.
