lies –

I saw your comment about loving wild roses and needed to share this with you.  Cicely Mary Barker was one of my favorite poet-illustrators as a kid, and for awhile, the Wild Rose Fairy was my favorite of her flower fairies!  Above is CMB’s imagining of the Wild Rose Fairy, and below is the accompanying poem.

The Song of the Wild Rose Fairy

I am queen whom everybody knows;
I am the English Rose;
As light and free as any Jenny Wren,
As dear to the Englishmen;
As joyous as a Robin Redbreast’s tune,
I sent the air of June;
My buds are rose as a baby’s cheek;
I have one word to speak,
One word which is my secret and my song,
‘Tis “England, England, England” all day long.

Thank you.
