Have you ever watched the awesome experimental short animations of Len Lye (1930s onwards; often abstract, made by painting directly on the film stock)? Lye also made kinetic art, and some kids really love his work (I’ve seen this happen firsthand). Also, one of my Secret Tumblr Aspirations is to gif Lye. Not to be confused with giffing Lies. :D
