Announcing the WORDBIRDS TUMBLR CONTEST! On October 15, the full-color WORDBIRDS book (Simon & Schuster) comes out—with more than a hundred new words and drawings you won’t find online (200+ entries in all). Is there a word you want coined? Submit your suggestion, and starting Oct. 15, four lucky winners will have their word named by me and drawn by Elizabeth Zechel—and will receive a signed copy of the book. To give you a taste of victory, we have birdified one of this summer’s best reader word requests (from Kathryn Schulz): MUMBLENYM (n.) ‘mum-bul-nim Word you don’t know how to pronounce, because you’ve seen it written but never heard it spoken, like “misled” or “awry.” (Illustrated above)
