Interesting to see how elements of the original story (actually told at the awards dinner by Mills, not as a true story but as a fictional example of how changing the circumstances changes the nature of the crime) were combined with an out-and-out lie (“A true story from Associated Press. Reported by Kurt Westervelt.”) to give the thing its legs.
Lesson: If it sounds too awesome to be true, and you read it online, it almost always is a lie.
