There it is in a nutshell.
I didn’t recognize the image (and I have every episode of the Granada series on DVD, so that was noteworthy). I also didn’t recognize the quote as being from canon. What was going on?
I’m glad I looked. The quote (and I assume the photo) are from the play The Secret of Sherlock Holmes, by Jeremy Paul. From Wikipedia:
The Secret of Sherlock Holmes by Jeremy Paul was staged in London’s West End in 1988, with Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke reprising their television roles as Holmes and Watson. It was revived in the summer of 2010 at the Duchess Theatre, this time starring television actors Peter Egan as Holmes and Robert Daws as Watson.
I’ve seen several Holmes plays, but never that one. Now I want to.
