The Captain’s Daughter or why James Tissot is awesome and you should love him too.

With some shame I have to confess that I had no idea who James Tissot was before the Summer 2012, when I was charmed by his works exposed in the Musee d’Orsay of Paris. His style can be described as Realism applied to theory of Impressionism, as in, he tries to capture the moment (the impression), but his own style is really too realistic for him to be considered an actual impressionist. Also, he was extremely prolific. Like seriously, over 300 awesome paintings of him out there. And he also tended to reuse the same themes and dresses and backgrounds over and over. But I think he did so with certain purpose, as seen in this series, I like to title “The Story of the Captain’s Daughter”:
