Listen my child, and uh, you might hear…

Some jumbled up gibberish about, uh, Paul Revere.

“We saw where Paul Revere hung out as a teenager, which was something new to learn. He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed.”

Oh please brer GOP, please don’t run Super Sarah! If you throw us poor dum libs in that there briar patch, why that would be the worstest! You betcha! (wink)

Gawd I saw the video of that statement on the weekend. Look, I don’t know all that much about the history of your great country but I do know bullshit when I hear it. And the way she explained I could instantly tell she didn’t have a clue wtf she was talking about. It’s a good thing she out there spreading the good word LOL.

This version made better sense to me, and always has:

  2. Smith Says:

Yes, let’s all spend more time directing our attention towards Sarah Palin.

That ship has sank. She isn’t even the most current piece of non-news. Haven’t you heard? We are supposed to be making Weiner jokes now, instead of focusing on real news.

I’d suggest discussing actual Republican candidates, but there don’t seem to be any.

I predict NL’s video will be the only thing in this thread that is not complete shit.

  3. jbc Says:

My favorite parts of this story were 1) when Palin was interviewed the following day (I think?) and complained about being hit by a “gotcha” question. This being the actual question she was asked:

“What have you seen so far today and what are you going to take away from your visit?”

…and then 2) the edit war on the Paul Revere page at Wikipedia, with a Palin supporter attempting to alter the article to better support her after-the-fact spin justifying her original doofus-ery.

Thank you, enkidu, for posting this item. Since otherwise I was feeling like I pretty much was going to have to.

In the same vein, would someone please post a Weiner wrap-up, now that he’s acknowledged lying? Kthxbye!

  4. enkidu Says:

Hilarious wiki war over wwnjs trying to edit the Paul Revere legend to contort to Super Sarah’s obvious mental fart. My 9 yr old knows more about Paul Revere than she does. My 12 yr old’s comment after playing that video was “oh my gawd!”

File Rep Wiener under ‘stick a fork in it, well done’
too bad, as he was one of the few decent Reps currently serving

Currently he just sent some naughty pics from his personal blackberry, but I wouldn’t rule out further shenanigans. What is it with powerful successful people that they seem to revel in acting like complete idiots when it comes to sex? Maybe we should have Diaper Dave Vitter on lies.com to comment on Rep Wiener’s sexting escapades.

Weiner was on a tear trying to get Clarence Thomas to recuse himself from any HCR decisions since his wwnj wife has made something like half a million working for wwnj anti-HCR outfits.

Gee I sure hope this meets with Mr Smith’s exacting standards of commenting!
    ;)

  5. NorthernLite Says:

What really, really gets me and makes me sort of angry, is that his wife is well, just awesome. Beautiful and intelligent all in a very quiet, classy sort of way. Why do these guys do this crap?!

Maybe it’s because I’m around her age and interested in politics, but I’ve had a huge crush on her for a long time – since the ’08 primaries when I first saw and read about her while she worked on Hillary’s campaign – so it really made me mad that he would do that to her. But when they married last year I was actually kind of like, well, okay, this guy is a pretty staunch Liberal and a fighter for the little guy so I’m cool with her tying the knot with him. He was always good on the Daily Show.

Seriously. I’m fucking pissed. What a loser.

You can take this as Sarah getting the last laugh, or just chalk it up to the fact that even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Either way, it’s amazing how this woman is political catnip for liberals.

  7. knarlyknight Says:

    Palin in 1012!

  8. enkidu Says:

oh come on craig/malkin, you know that is bs
did you actually watch that video link?
she emerged from the Old North Church and was asked (surely a gotcha question) what did you learn? what did you take away from your visit? (or something similar)

“we saw where Paul Revere hung out as a teenager… he who warned, uh, the British… uh, by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells…”

Just listen to her pea sized brain trying to spit out some wwnj that interfaced ever so lightly with objective reality… hilarious.

PR was captured (by definition *after* his famous stealthy ride) and with a British pistol literally at his head talked some smack about how we had 500 militia and unicorns and sparkles an stuff on our side! neener!

If Joe Biden had said this, we’d all have a good laugh. But wwnjs like you and the rest of the morans who are twisting this into Super Sarah being right and you dum libs bein wrong (as usual! wink! you betcha!)

Again, my nine year old knows more about PR than you wwnjs.

  9. shcb Says:

AlGore made a similar gaff and was given a pass except for talk radio, certainly wasn’t a post about it here. Politics as usual.

  10. NorthernLite Says:

I notice when most people make gaffes they admit they slipped, and move on. We all make gaffes.

But Palin always just digs in her heels and never admits she is ever wrong, which many people find very annoying.

How is asking “what are you going to take away most from your visit?” a gotcha question?

How is asking “what papers or books do you read to stay informed?” a gotcha question?

How does being able to see another country in the distance make you an expert of foreign affairs?

It’s that kind of stuff that bothers people, and entertains others :)

  11. enkidu Says:

wwnj, please provide a link to Algore’s gaff

Stupor Sarah isn’t catnip, she’s dumb as a rock kryptonite

oh please brer GOP, please don’t run Stupor Sarah! aint nothing we dum libs would fear more oh please oh please! (wink!)

    lorry!

  12. Smith Says:

Oh look, Craig blessed us with his presence and Enky’s shift key and shcb’s space bar are broken.

    Prediction status: Confirmed

  13. shcb Says:

AlGore didn’t know “who are these people” when he saw the busts of the founding fathers at Monticello. He went on to win a Nobel prize having to do with Global Warming (climate change as it’s now called). Hmmm.

  14. shcb Says:

One thing I haven’t seen (haven’t looked very hard though) is what was Super Sarah told on the tour? The question was what did she learn, if the tour guide had told her PR was talking smack to the British wouldn’t she just be answering the question?

If your primary criteria for president is a knowledge of history then Newt is your man, of course he has an approval of what 7% of Republicans and just lost most of his staff.

  15. enkidu Says:

WWNJ – Please Provide a URL (my shift key works Just Fine thx)
I suspect this is more wrong wing nut job bullshit

  16. shcb Says:

Google “al gore who are these people” if I give you a link that will become the subject of your ridicule.

  17. enkidu Says:

I am asking you what your source was (knowing full-well your source is almost certainly bullshit). I googled and was unable to find a legitimate source.

Every schoolchild knows the legend of Paul Revere. He who warned the British… rang them bells and shootin up the town… yeehaw! lorry!

Every schoolchild knows what Ben Franklin and TJ looked like (tho those waifs in Texas eventually may not know who Thomas Jefferson is… they’ve been editing him out of their textbooks cuz he were a dang lib!)

  18. shcb Says:

What does that have to do with algore? No source is going to be legitimate to you even those with tape of the event. If the site was bushshouldbekilled.com you would claim it was a right wing site.

  19. Craig Says:

An apparently illegitimate source according to Enkidu: A C-Span video of Al Gore saying it to a tour guide at Monticello. How Orwellian of you!

Actually, I can’t blame you for tiring at the Google search for such evidence. After all, it took me all of 60 seconds to find it. http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/37153-1

Actually, I put Gore’s comment along the same lines as Bush asking a cashier how the price scanner worked. Both are examples of people making small talk while passing time during a standard media event/photo op.

If pressed, I’m sure Gore would have actually identified Franklin and Washington (but I doubt any of us could have named John Paul Jones or Lafayette). And Bush didn’t think the scanner was some magical creation.

But it all makes for great fodder for those who want to support their broad-based characterizations of someone with “evidence” via non-critical thinking.

  20. enkidu Says:

gee thanks craig/malkin! could you point me to the exact spot in the video where algore sounds as dumb as Super Sarah? It is 33 minutes long and I don’t have time to watch it all. I listened to half of it on headphones (loud) and couldn’t hear this infamous gaffapalooza. I also skimmed the last 16 minutes looking for the group (who do quite a bit of joking around) in front of a series of portrait busts. The only time I observed 4 busts was in the entrance hall.

I’ve taken the house tour of Monticello, and it is a wonderful place.

I did search more than a half dozen google pages and couldn’t find anything particularly reputable right off the bat. I don’t see your result in there at all, but maybe you searched google for 60 seconds while I only spent about 30 seconds.

So was Gore in front of the Lafayette or J P Jones busts when he made his famous gaff? It is OK to use algore’s marvelous Information Superhighway to look up the answer. Go on, or is it back to lurking and pearl clutching?

But seriously, did you actually listen to brer Palin? She just stepped out of the Old North Church and her take-away is “we saw where Paul Revere hung out as a teenager… he who warned, uh, the British… uh, by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells…” PR did not ring any bells, nor did he fire any shots on his famous ride… but why let facts get in the way of partisan bullshit, eh?

  21. enkidu Says:

Still waiting for that time code where algore makes with the stupid…

Funny, I was all set to say “well, gee he did say something stupid! don’t we all now and again” or perhaps “well, I wouldn’t know what Lafayette or JPJ looked like, so perhaps this is understandable”

Instead you offer up a video link that does not support your claim (and then totter off clutching your pearls and decrying how rude those awful dum libs are!)

Same old bullsh!t. Or can you show me a legitimate source for algore’s amazing gaffapalooza? Still waiting for wwnj’s ‘source’ (probably more bullsh!t)

There is a pattern, and it is drawn out in sepia tones of bullsh!t.

  22. Craig Says:

Good God, look at the video yourself! How much hand-holding do you need? Your 9-year old could probably help you out!

I’ve already said that Gore’s quote (yes, it’s there) isn’t an indicator of anything other than a politician making small talk to fill time during a media event.

Politicians say dumber things almost daily.

  23. enkidu Says:

Good Grief Charlie Brown! Do you have a reading comprehension problem? I *did* listen to your link (ok the first half, but I did skim through the second 16 minute portion, nothing). The only place with four busts on that video appears to be in the first couple minutes as they come in to the entrance hall. You can hear Gore talk about the clock – nothing about the busts.

You say “yes, it’s there”… where?

    Show me. Prove it.

I went to the Monticello web site and found out who those four busts depict (now they could have changed in the last decade and a half or so, but I doubt it). They sure aren’t who you say they are.

I’m calling bullshit on yet another wwnj myth.

    Prove me wrong.

  24. shcb Says:

And you wonder why I didn’t provide a link.

  25. NorthernLite Says:

Crazy-ass Canadian hockey fans are almost as crazy as the dreaded honey badger. Knarly, hope you and your property are okay bro!

I just read an email Palin wrote as if she were God…

    That’s some crazy shit too!

  26. enkidu Says:

Yet I’ve asked politely again and again for your source wwnj
Thus far you cannot furnish a legitimate source…
the video does not record the gaff (mb I missed it in the second half, but there is only so much time I’m willing to listen to a tour of Monticello – been there, done that)

If you can’t point to the time signature on that video and say “algore’s gaff is at X:YZ” then your link and the myth is bullshit.

Right wing tropes are almost always bullshit. I’m more than willing to acknowledge it could be true, but so far your ‘evidence’ is lacking.

heck who hasn’t said something stupid or as a joke that fell flat, like that guy who tells the Dalai Lama a joke “Dalai Lama walks into a pizza parlor and says “make me one with everything” (halfhearted rimshot)

Come on wwnjs cough up a legitimate source (not some wwnj bloggrrrrr! ;)
Make the dum lib eat tasty crow!

I know you can do it (actually I am beginning to suspect that this is bullshit, or possibly something that happened on their first visit – the curator welcomes them back…) It is ok to use algore’s Amazing Information Superhighway (note: Conservapedia sources are not legitimate)

  27. shcb Says:

I found a short video clip of the event, he isn’t in the entrance he is in another room where the busts are on the wall, a little highter than head height, the lighting isn’t very good so it’s hard to tell what the room is maybe a dining room? But he does say it. I had only heard audio before. Only took me a couple minutes.

  28. enkidu Says:

    link please

  29. shcb Says:

I searched “al gore who are these guys video” that took me to a discussion, on the first page a suggestion to a link was made, I followed that and bingo there it was. You wouldn’t like any of the links. All right wing stuff, but the video is there. My guess is if you watch the whole video Craig linked to you will see it. He didn’t say it in the entrance as far as I can tell.

  30. enkidu Says:

    22:00 to 22:30 in Craig’s link

Gore clearly (wink!) points out the two in the middle – Lafayette and John Paul Jones – and this is a gaffe? You wouldn’t be able to identify a bust of either of these two gentlemen (as Craig admits, to his credit). Clearly Mr Gore wasn’t pointing at Washington ;)

So 2 of the 4 busts are not easily recognizable and Gore asks ‘and who are these people?’ No one batted an eye. Why? Because those are not commonly recognized portraits. You’ll also note he says “right” at the same time as the guide is identifying George Washington. As if to say ‘of course’. Maybe if you weren’t viewing the video thru bullsh!t colored glasses or your 90˚ (to the right) polarizing filter you might hear the guide remarking several times at algore’s recall of interesting items in the house.

Yet another trumped up right wing bullshit trope down in flames.

But you will focus on the glass being half full of bullshit.

like this tool (mb this was your source wwnj? Elmer Fudd with a 80 IQ)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJfigbWbAB0

They also move the busts around (the Franklin portrait in the QT pano movie is a warm amber color, that didn’t seem to be the case in the video)
    http://www2.monticello.org/house/tearoom.html

    google images “tea room monticello”

  31. shcb Says:

Exactly, and how is that so much different from what just happened to Super Sarah? She was right apparently, she was asked what she had learned, not what she knew before she went on the tour. And exactly how are you that much different from the 80 IQ guy? Did you see what he goes on about after the Gore story? Obama not knowing how many states there are. Of course Obama knows how many states thee are, he probably meant that was how many cities in the 48 states he had been in, something like that. The 80 IQ guy reminds me of people that won’t give others the benefit of the doubt for a typo, lorry!

  32. enkidu Says:

No Super Sarah wasn’t right. Paul Revere fired no shots on his ride (seeekrit!) he rang no bells. When captured by the British he had a gun to his head and he said whatever he had to to keep his head from being blown off. He warned the colonists that the regulars were coming out, not the British that they weren’t gunna take our guns away (n stuff, wink!)

I think Elmer cuts the video pretty early because it is plain by Gore’s hand gesture that he knew the end two portrait busts, but not the middle two. He makes the ‘devil’s horns’ gesture as he says right and right, then uh huh (or aha) when he is informed of who the two mystery busts actually were. For context, recall the entry hall where the guide makes a point of saying how TJ kept a surprising variety of portrait busts including arch rivals etc.

But of course, your glass is half full of wwnj bullshit, so you will believe Mr Fudd instead of yer lyin eyes.
