Disney Forbidding Distribution of Film That Criticizes Bush
I saw this little ditty in IMDB’s Movie News, I’ll lay off the personal commentary, and just link to Mike’s Message and cite a few passages from the NY Times Article…
… Disney executives indicated that they would not budge from their position forbidding Miramax to be the distributor of the film in North America. …
…
Mr. Moore’s agent, Ari Emanuel, said Michael D. Eisner, Disney’s chief executive, asked him last spring to pull out of the deal with Miramax. Mr. Emanuel said Mr. Eisner expressed particular concern that it would endanger tax breaks Disney receives for its theme park, hotels and other ventures in Florida, where Mr. Bush’s brother, Jeb, is governor.
…
A senior Disney executive elaborated that the company had the right to quash Miramax’s distribution of films if it deemed their distribution to be against the interests of the company. The executive said Mr. Moore’s film is deemed to be against Disney’s interests not because of the company’s business dealings with the government but because Disney caters to families of all political stripes and believes Mr. Moore’s film, which does not have a release date, could alienate many.
…
Miramax is free to seek another distributor in North America, but such a deal would force it to share profits and be a blow to Harvey Weinstein, a big donor to Democrats.

Why do all these links repeat the headline that mentions it ‘criticizes bush’. Thats not what this is about. sounds more like a lame ploy to play the ‘they’re silencing me! dissent is patriotic! waah wahh *cry*’ card.
Michael Moore is a liar. the end.

I can’t speak for “all these links”, I can onlyspeak for this link. I used the headline of the story that I cut and paste from. I figured if i’m going to blatently large sections of the article, i might as well re-use the headline as well.

I personally never liked Moore. Not because he’s a liar — that’s fine, most people in the movie biz are — but because he made money off of a tragic event (and probably will do so again).
Much the same as Bush is doing. Bush and Moore are the same type of bastard, they’re just owned by different puppeteers.
“Those who would fight monsters must take care not to become one.”
Moore is the film equivalent of Stern. Both try to come across as exposing some kind of great societal scam, but in the end they’re just shock jocks in their respective mediums, whoring for popularity and $$ by trying to be extremeists. To those who say “Bowling for Columbine” was a documentary, no. A documentary isn’t supposed to have lies and present only one side of the story.

Michael Moore is a genious. Sure, he makes money on his films. That’s how he makes a living. Is that so wrong? He has also pledged every dollar of his Bush tax cut to defeat Bush in the upcoming election.
As to the “Bowlingfortruth.com” website listed above, I’ll let Michael Moore defend himself here:

I’ve found that most people who don’t like Michael Moore have already made up there minds before ever seeing a movie of his, or reading a book by him.

Funny you should post that. Check out:

I’ve read most of Moore’s books. I’ve seen BfC. I don’t dislike something until I’ve an intricate knowledge of it. As for profiting from a movie that’s supposedly a documentary, yes, it IS wrong. The proposition of profit means you’re no longer doing it for the truth, but for personal gain. This leads to a loss of objective perspective.

Bush doesn’t lie, Bush just happens to be wrong on occasion. Imagine that! You mean, he’s not “infallible?” WOW. Vote the bum out!
Meanwhile, we have a population of spin-artists, con artists, PREMEDITATED liars and disingenuous hypocrites who profit from the very system they despise.
Such is the case with Micheal Moore, who’s “documentaries” are as genuine as “the Blair Witch Project.” He stages scenes and interviews. THROUGH EDITING, he shapes and molds the truth like play dough … or in his case, PIZZA dough.
Meanwhile, the “SHEEPLE” of this country look at him with awe. “Wow … he’s obese, ugly, unshaven and wears baseball caps … he’s for the ‘little guy.’ He’s like ME!” Wake up, people … he is a multi-millionaire snob who hates the very same capitalism which made him rich. He “ond the garb” of ordinary men as a disguise. His real crowd are the upper crust Socialists and socialites, who believe that ordinary people must be “led for their own good.”

Ha, I was just web hopping and run into this site. Actually, our NATONAL ACADEMY OF MEDIA has informed us that, after some knee-deep research that, his old film and the others, has 100% truth and major possibilities to truth. Also, if you havent noticed, “Bowlingfortruth” site is, propaganda. No truth at all. Haha. It only contains typical republican shit talk (uhm… Franken- nazi? FUN FUN FUN!)
Mike has long known and we foreigners know, america havent had politics since ABRAHAM LINCOLN. When he died, the reputation wars (Kerry eats kids?) begun. CRAP CRAP CRAP.
And Bush shows “we got bombs- bombs are nice- bombs come from heaven- im god that is” for the people, and the jerks buy it! God dammit! How low can you go? You get all couzy when you see Dalai Lhama- a freedom fighter using peace as weapon and at the same time like Bush “bomb till’ they stop!” tactics? Behave!
Mike is revolutionary since before, there was no real documentaries in america, no real ones, only things like “BLAME THE REPUBLICANS!” (not often heard though) or “BLAME THE DEMOCRATS!”. What Mike does is as a neutral man (he chooses party after leader, and he actually voted for Bush!) says who to blame. It may sound like personal attacks, but when you got the power, you wont notice men like him.
The french in Cannes knew this. And yes, the superior democracy of america ended soon 100 years ago. It seems that europa has won the marathon for now, are will you run it too, once again?

I wonder if anyone considered the possibility that Marimax was playing along with Moore’s spin on how nobody was going to allow him to show his movie?
BTW, here’s a link to a lefty who is actually honest in his criticism of the flick: http://film.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/Critic_Review/Observer_Film_of_the_week/0,4267,1258412,00.html
