    So the trick is that you describe a series of oil-drilling platforms in such detail that they become bored and leave you alone?

    Oops. Clipboardus imbecilus. That URL (http://www.mms.gov/omm/pacific/offshore/platforms/nuevoplatform.htm , for anyone interested, now that I’ve fixed it) was for a page that currently ranks quite high in William’s (my son’s) estimation, but which has nothing in particular to do with the story in question.
