War on Terra Trailer Screened in Theaters

In another cool example of Your Tax Dollars At Work, the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps have apparently contracted with a film production company to create a four-minute movie on Operation Enduring Freedom, with the film being shown in movie-houses nationwide before the regular feature. One mom reportedly complained about her kids seeing war footage before the G-rated Veggie-Tales movie, but she just sounds like a whiner. Can’t start kids too early on learning to reflexively fall into line whenever the government decides it wants to kill people overseas, is my attitude.

It’s an ugly country … a _terrorist_ country!

Even after losing an arm, a Taleban soldier retains over _60% combat effectiveness_.

I guess its easy to cast aspersions from the keyboard of your PC, nestled in the bosom of a middleclass neighborhood.

Watch the film before you make assumptions.

I don’t think that’s the same film discussed in the article, but I get your point. Still, what are you gonna do? Civilians: can’t live with ’em, can’t shoot ’em. Well, aren’t really supposed to shoot ’em, except when it’s inconvenient to avoid doing so while pursuing those legitimate military targets, I mean.

Having just watched the film, the two things it seemed most intent to convey are that the american military is very badass, and that it’s very triggerhappy.

These traits don’t seem to endear the subject to me. Soldiering is a revolting business; always, definitionally. The best case that can be made for it is that it may be necessary to prevent something even worse.

That, however, doesn’t seem to be the case they’re trying to make. Which makes me suspect that they don’t have the ability to see what a horrifying profession they possess, and that they’re every bit as excited about their own badassedness as they expect us to be.

If I just followed your link and watched that, do I now get to cast aspersions from the keyboard of my PC or do I have to go to my local theater nestled in the bosom of a middle class neighborhood first?

As a side comment, I get frustrated when people say things like “it’s all fine and good for you to say we shouldn’t , but why don’t you talk to the people who lost their loved one on 9-11?” As sad as their plight is, I’m afraid they’re the last ones capable of making rational decisions about actions that will affect world history for decades. Hell, the President is in a bit of an overpersonal relationship with Saddam Hussein to make rational decisions it seems.

(Wow lies.com has an objector! Way to go, JBC!)

I think it’s better to have at least some knowledge of the subject matter before I begin forming and conveying opinions.

It would be like me saying…..

“I hate the French because they”…. never mind bad example.

(Slightly better one… but still not very good)

“I hate the eating habits of the Northwestern Hawaiian boobie bird”, not that I have ever seen a boobie bird. All know is that I just dislike what they eat.

It’s healthy to have discussion over things like war, but to rule it out in every discussion (even as just an option) does more harm then good.

Yes, our military is VERY badass, very very badass. I appreciate the fact that there are young people who will give their lives for what some in this country take for granted.

A case for action is being planed out and when its appropriate it will be shown to us all.

In the meantime, let the bombastic statements fly.
