Where’s George?

I previously linked to Joshua Micah Marshall’s observations about the weird way that the official Bush (re-)election site likes to run photos of Kerry, and Reagan, and pretty much anyone but George W. Bush (Running away from Bush). Well, I was curious what was up over at that official Bush site, so I checked it out this morning, and guess what? They’ve found a new way not to display Bush’s image on their top-level page. They do it by showing pictures of Laura.

Now, as with Bush’s inability to pronounce the name of the prison at the heart of the ongoing scandal threatenting to undo his presidency, I feel kind of weird even paying attention to this. I mean, it’s trivial, I realize.

But there it is. I don’t think it’s possible to construe this as an accident at this point. The Bush campaign, seriously, deliberately, repeatedly, is choosing not to put their candidate’s face on the home page of their official campaign site.

What does that say? I don’t mean that in a snarky, ‘what a miserable failure is Bush’ way. I mean it seriously. I want to know. What does that say? Why is that happening? What is the logic behind it? I mean, it has to be on purpose, right?

If large swaths of the net take notice and talk about it, will it change? They must be aware that it’s being talked about already, and it’s only a matter of time before the print media calls attention to it. What if they start getting questions about it in televised press briefings? Will they stop doing it at that point? Or will they just pretend the question is beneath their notice, and continue?

It’s a loose tooth, and I can’t stop poking at it. It’s weird. And I like weird.

You need to pull the tooth and get over it!

I must be opening Bush’s web site while in a parallel universe because I see his image not only on the home page, but scattered throughout the site!

It must be a slow news day at lies.com headquarters.

At http://www.georgewbush.com/? That’s weird. I just went there, and while they’ve replaced the huge image of Laura with a huge, unflattering image of Kerry, they’ve also removed the tiny, back-of-his-head-in-a-hardhat image of George from the logo at the top and replaced it with an enthusiastic crowd. I don’t find a single picture of George on the top-level page at the moment.

That’s all I’ve been talking about: the top-level page at that URL. I don’t have enough interest to dig deeper at that site.

Right now, this minute, I see three images of Kerry on Bush’s campaign site, one of Laura, and none of GWB.

Odd — for me, there’s a flash animation of Bush looking like the Marlboro Man on the front page. It’s neat and makes him look cool, unlike any of the three pictures of Kerry that I see on page 1 of Bush’s site.

Must be a site where images are rotated over a period of time. Sometimes Bush is on the front, sometimes not. Either way, his image is all over the web site itself. The whole “hide the President” theory is goofy anyway.

It ain’t goofy, its a fact. Don’t like it? Go change it. Stop trying to tell us the stars in the sky aren’t stars, we can see all too clearly for ourselves.

Have you morons figured out yet that kerry is a clown, and Bush will be re-elected?

  9. John Callender Says:

Not really, no. From my perspective, the more-interesting question is, how is it that all the Bush supporters have yet to figure out that he’s a clown, and will be defeated (again).
