Observations by sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in:

NGC2438 (Planetary Nebula, in Puppis)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Sun Jan 22 23:15:00 2006 UT   Obs. no.: 1480

One of the objects I had never thought I could see. It was not visible with averted vision at medium magnification. I switched to high magnification. The rich background of M46 made things uneasy. Then I used Orion Skyglow filter and the nebula was barely visible through the filter + averted vision. It appeared a bit diffuse, unlike other NGC planetaries which appear as out of focus stars. Thanks to the nebula filter without which the planetary nebula would not have been visible.

M9 (Globular Cluster, in Ophiuchus)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Fri Jan 20 05:50:00 2006 UT   Obs. no.: 1477

A circular and a rich globular. Could'nt see anything more due to twilight.

M92 (Globular Cluster, in Hercules)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)

Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Fri Jan 20 05:40:00 2006 UT   Obs. no.: 1478

I think I've seen this one earlier but this time, it appeared beautiful, showing hints of resolution with a bright centre. One peculiar fact is that it appears brighter than M13 to my eyes!

M12 (Globular Cluster, in Ophiuchus)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Fri Jan 20 05:30:00 2006 UT   Obs. no.: 1476

It is located close to M10. Identical to M10 but appeared a bit larger and slightly oval with the same brightness as its neighbour.

NGC5986 (Globular Cluster, in Lupus)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)

Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Fri Jan 20 05:20:00 2006 UT   Obs. no.: 1479

A bright globular, often neglected by everyone. It is a very good globular. If any of you have'nt seen it, then give it a shoot. Its nice!

M10 (Globular Cluster, in Ophiuchus)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)

Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Fri Jan 20 05:20:00 2006 UT   Obs. no.: 1475

Appeared a bit loose and slightly oval, but bright. I think I have seen this with my 2 inch about an year ago.

M77 (Galaxy, in Cetus)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: light   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Tue Jan 3 19:30:00 2006 UT   Obs. no.: 1464

On this day, for my luck, the power went off in the city and I got to see a country sky right in the heart of the city! But the moon washed away the fainter stars. I aimed for M77 and easily foung it. Its unusually bright centre does show a striking difference between ordinary galaxies and active galaxies. It bore magnification well and at very low magnification, it appeared a sort of planetary nebula with a star right next to it.

M65 (Galaxy, in Leo)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Tue Jan 3 04:45:00 2006 UT   Obs. no.: 1469

The neighbouring galaxy of M66. Its spiral structure was easily visible but it was a bit dimmer than M66 and was difficult to see. It appeared a bit larger than M66. Both gave a wonderful sight and I was quite surprized to see these two from a light polluted area.

M66 (Galaxy, in Leo)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Tue Jan 3 04:45:00 2006 UT   Obs. no.: 1468

A bright galaxy in Leo. I could easily spot it as it is next to a bright star. It appeared better and brighter than its neighbour, M65 but appeared some what smaller. I could easily make out the spiral shape of this galaxy.

M104 (Sombrero Galaxy) (Galaxy, in Virgo)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Tue Jan 3 03:45:00 2006 UT   Obs. no.: 1467

I could see the galaxy without any difficulty but I could not make out its elliptical shape. I could barely see the dark dust lane.

NGC6210 (Planetary Nebula, in Hercules)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Sun Jan 1 05:30:00 2006 UT   Obs. no.: 1462

A very easy planetary nebula. It formed a sort of right angled triangle with two other sides with itself being the 'star' opposite to the hypotenuse. A greenish-blue disc, smaller than other planetaries. Dew and twilight did'nt allow further observations of the planetary.

M51 (Whirlpool Galaxy) (Galaxy, in Canes Venatici)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Sun Jan 1 04:45:00 2006 UT   Obs. no.: 1465

Though a bright galaxy, it was at the limit of visiblity from my light polluted sky. With a faint red sky glow, I just managed to see it through averted vision! I'm sure that the view is going to be far more better in a dark sky where it can show off along with its companion galaxy.

NGC5286 (Globular Cluster, in Centaurus)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Wed Dec 28 04:45:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1454

I did'nt want to aim for it but just gave it a try and I did see it. It was visible using averted vision, situated very close to a bright star.

NGC3918 (Planetary Nebula, in Centaurus)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Wed Dec 28 04:20:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1457

This one is a good planetary nebula situated in a star studded region. The view of it reminded me the view of Uranus, representing a greenish, circular disc. Great object!

M53 (Globular Cluster, in Coma Berenices)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Wed Dec 28 03:55:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1458

A good globular cluster in a region filled with galaxies. It appeared bigger than the normal globulars and somewhat whitish in colour.

NGC1528 (Open Cluster, in Perseus)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Tue Dec 27 22:15:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1456

A good open cluster. It made a specific pattern. I don't remember what pattern it formed. A worth-looking object.

M64 (Black-Eye Galaxy) (Galaxy, in Coma Berenices)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Tue Dec 27 03:50:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1466

A very easy galaxy from a city. Its elliptical-spiral structure was obvious. But I could not make out the central, dark dust lane. A beautiful and a must see galaxy.

NGC1535 (Planetary Nebula, in Eridanus)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Mon Dec 26 23:30:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1455

All I can say about this is.... yet another greenish planetary nebula. The only thing was that I felt happy for seeing a deep-sky object in Eridanus.

Uranus (Planet, est. to be in Aquarius)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: fair   Seeing: good
Time: Wed Nov 30 20:30:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1451

This was an easy shot. Showed a blue-green disc at high power. Something like a planetary nebula. It was present in the centre of a small triangle formed by 3 stars.

M81 (Galaxy, in Ursa Major)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Wed Nov 30 05:10:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1452

Just casually moved through the field and found it. Not an exciting object from a light polluted area. Infact galaxies don't show up well in light polluted areas. But still it was appreciable.

NGC7662 (Planetary Nebula, in Andromeda)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: fair   Seeing: good
Time: Tue Nov 29 20:30:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1439

I searched this planetary nebula for about 30 minutes as there was a bad haze. Finally I gave up and just casually moved my telescope through the field and there it was! I used the Orion Skyglow Filter to confirm that it was the planetary. I appears bluish white. Cool object.

M30 (Globular Cluster, in Capricornus)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Sat Nov 19 19:46:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1407

A fairly bright globular cluster gave a mottled view through my telescope. It is located very close to a star.

NGC663 (Open Cluster, in Cassiopeia)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Fri Nov 18 20:05:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1406

Another open cluster near M103. Though this cluster has a lower brightness when compared to M103, it gave a much better view with more number of stars.

M103 (Open Cluster, in Cassiopeia)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Fri Nov 18 20:05:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1405

A faint group of stars forming a triangular shape. I think I can get better views of this cluster from a dark location.

M40 (Multiple Star, in Ursa Major)
Observer: Sriram.M.Gubbi (e-mail: sriram_gubbi@yahoo.co.in, web: http://dino.lm.com/artists/display.php?name=sriram_gubbi)
Instrument: 6-inch other   Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Light pollution: moderate   Transparency: good   Seeing: good
Time: Mon Nov 14 04:45:00 2005 UT   Obs. no.: 1453

This is the messier object which everyone neglects to see (even myself). I just made up my mind to update my messier observations and saw it and it was worth seeing. A good double star.
