My tank was overdue for some maintenance, so I did some last night. I’ve got a bit of an algae issue, but I cleaned the glass and did a gentle rub on the larger leaves, which helped a lot.

The nitrate level was getting up there, but the water change helped bring that back down. The pH was a little low, too, so I nudged that up a bit by not treating the incoming water (which is always really alkaline around here) as much as I normally would.

The fishies seem to approve.

I used to keep tropical fish as a kid, and then had a phase in college when I got fairly into it. Lately I set up a 10-gallon freshwater tank just to dabble a little; this is how it’s looking now.

I’m a sucker for the natural look. I don’t have the energy to commit to full-on aquascaping at the moment, but that’s the kind of thing I was going for here.

It just makes me happy to look at a tank like this.
