Net neutrality is not some abstract concept that is “in danger” or “at risk”. It’s a newish term, but it the thing it refers to is one of the original design principles — arguably the original design principle — that made the Internet what it is. And it isn’t “at risk”. It is being violated today, right now, by greedy ISPs like Verizon.

But the tl;dr version is that after taking customers’ money to provide high-speed access to “the Internet”, Verizon is intentionally allowing its customers’ access to certain parts of the Internet to degrade to the point of unusability, then using that to try to extort payment from the content providers (or the content providers’ ISPs) that their users would like to access.
The FCC has indicated they are willing to let them get away with this. The public comment period on that proposed ruling is about to expire. If you haven’t voiced your objections to that yet, you should.
