shipwreckedcomedy:

Some of our kickstarter perks included original photos from on set that we took with disposable cameras. We got digital copies of them all because we love them and they give a old-school summer camp view of what it was like to be on set with us. Here are a few that we’ve posted on our instagram lately.

Edgar Allan Poe’s Murder Mystery Dinner Party now complete on Shipwrecked Comedy!

In Review: The Most Memorable We the People Petitions:

Moved by the tragic suicide of a transgender teenager whose parents had forced her to attend conversion therapy, citizens used a We the People petition to support a ban on the practice. In a response, the White House did just that, and President Obama threw his support behind state-level efforts to ban conversation therapy for minors. Prior to this response, the White House had not taken an official stance on the issue.

“This Administration believes that young people should be valued for who they are, no matter what they look like, where they’re from, the gender wiht which they identify, or who they love.”

Wednesday, December 28th, 2016

windandwater:

we make and decorate cookies every year in our house, only because we have dinosaur and unicorn and shark cookie cutters that we never use otherwise, we also throw in a few strange ones along with the usual trees and stars. and we have decorations that include eyeballs and bones from Halloween.

so this year my mom invited two little kids over to do it with us so already this is a recipe for success

and my favorite part was teaching them to do sock slides because hi what kind of children don’t do sock slides and their mom being like “oh….we have a new activity…”

but the other best part was that the little girl started out doing purple cats and pink unicorns but by the end she was like I’M GONNA MAKE A SLIMY HAND and made a gross green hand and covered it wit candy so it looked like it had a really disgusting disease and my mom and I were SO. PROUD.

““I offer my sincere and everlasting condolences to the souls of those who lost their lives here, as…”

Tuesday, December 27th, 2016

“I offer my sincere and everlasting condolences to the souls of those who lost their lives here, as well as to the spirits of all the brave men and women whose lives were taken by a war that commenced in this very place, and also to the souls of the countless innocent people who became victims of the war,” Mr. Abe said. He added, “We must never repeat the horrors of war again.”

For his part, Mr. Obama described in detail what occurred on the day of the attack, highlighted acts of heroism by American service members and said that the visit of Mr. Abe “reminds us of what is possible between nations and between peoples.’’

Mr. Obama added, in what seemed a warning after the scorching American presidential campaign: “Even when hatred burns hottest and the tug of tribalism is at the most primal, we must resist the urge to turn in. We must resist the urge to demonize those who are different. The sacrifice made here, the angst of war, reminds us to seek the divine spark that is common to all humanity.”

The president and prime minister made their remarks at the end of a long pier that overlooks Pearl Harbor and the memorial to the attack — a small building on top of the carcass of the battleship Arizona in Pearl Harbor, where 2,400 American sailors, Marines and others were killed in the surprise military strike on Dec. 7, 1941. Mr. Abe and Mr. Obama laid wreaths made of white peace lilies at the memorial, and then dropped purple Hawaiian orchids into the water.

How did it feel when you saw the first thing you’ve written that came to life? Like a small script for uni or something. Coz I just imagine that’d be so satisfying and I dream of that happening XD

Tuesday, December 27th, 2016

The first larger scale thing I wrote was a sitcom about Roman family life for my AP Euro class in High School. It was like the Brady Bunch but with togas and forums and such. My goal was to make my sorta stoic teacher laugh and I TOtEssss succeeded. It was a culmination of those times when I (a small goth nerd whom no one spoke to) was able to make people laugh with words I’d written that made me realize I had to do this forever.

The next year I made a short film for my AP US history class called “Tea Time with Emerson and Thoreau” so I guess doing something like Poe Party was my destiny.

Seeing something you’ve written come to life is the best feeling and nothing else comes close (except the feeling of milkshake drinking and like being with the ones you love I guess but whatever). I hope you get to experience it too!!

“The rise of Trump, then, a man who encourages mob rule at his rallies, says he will move on…”

Monday, December 26th, 2016

“The rise of Trump, then, a man who encourages mob rule at his rallies, says he will move on establishing a Muslim registry, and promises to emphasize law and order in his administration ought to make clear what has always been the stakes of tackling racism in this country. The link Arendt draws between racism and terror especially rings true to me three weeks removed from Trump’s victory, not because Trump marks the reemergence of the link between racism and terror in the United States, but because Trump’s victory crystalizes the fact that the link between racism and terror in this country has never been broken, even under the watch of President Barack Obama. Think of how Muslim communities have been targeted by the FBI and CIA to stop potential terrorists before they strike. Think of all of the footage caught by video phones, dash cams, and body cameras that show police officers murdering and brutalizing black people just for existing. Think about the unjust war being waged against Native Americans who are defending their land rights in North Dakota. Racism is bad (racist views and all) not just because it limits the life chances of those marginalized, but because it produces social and economic orders that exude it and habits of race world-making that penetrate and undermine the rule of law. Taking racism seriously is a complex enterprise. It means acknowledging that racism and the social and economic order of a racist society are inextricably linked. This is the case in the United States of America. It also means realizing that racism has always been and will always be a threat to the very existence of American democracy. And yes, the racist views of Trump voters are not only significant, they are terrifying. Attempts to persuade people that these racist views can be overcome by attending to the economic despair of the white working class are equally as terrifying. For me, one thing is certain, however we move forward under these national conditions of terror, we can no longer afford to give in to common sense fallacies about racism.”
