Tags: or at least, but you know, why I'm on team alone, team you don't have any legitimate basis, for claiming any particular numeric probability, for team not-alone, it is as likely that life is unique to earth, as that life is non-unique to earth, in the sense that when you don't know how many sides the die has, arguing that a very large number of die rolls is likely to produce a 1, betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of probability, it surprises me how many otherwise numerate people, betray that particular misunderstanding, people prefer stories with gods, tigers, extraterrestrials, to stories without them, the human imagination has a narrative bias, i guess it's harder to imagine and wonder at, the possibility that life exists only here, than that it is commonplace, people have always drawn cool doodles in the blank margins of their maps, but that's not the same as actually going there.
