This piece draws on the character Ophelia from Hamlet. It is part of a series of
portraits based on literary characters, in which symbols are extracted or
derived from the original text in order to capture the characters’ identities.
Through this, the series explores the role symbols play in literature while
also highlighting the way in which one’s experiences, in this case, one’s
literary experiences, shape one’s perceptions of other works of art.
