marykatewiles:

Stupidly forgot to post this last week when #Craftversations pt 2 went up, but here we are with our finished crafts! Thanks @thatjuliacho for being on the show! Check it out on my channel if you haven’t yet ❤️

I’m not sure why these work so well for me. I guess part of it is that most of the guests have been people I’ve been following for a few years now. But it’s more than that; the format really works well, because they’re doing these simple, repetitive things (which are kind of interesting, and give a narrative structure to the whole experience, because look! it’s done! and ooh, pretty!), but at the same time they’re just talking about stuff they actually care about, and the distraction of the crafting causes them to let their hair down, so to speak, and talk honestly.

I guess it’s the same thing I’ve talked about before that makes these small fandoms so compelling for me. They’re just cool people doing their thing, and it’s like any parasocial fan/celebrity relationship in how it plays into a sense I get of being part of that, hanging out with them, nodding and doing my own craft and occasionally chiming in. Which isn’t what it is, of course. But still, there’s a realness to it that I appreciate, that makes it worthwhile.

Possibly just me. Apologies if it got weird. That happens.
